I started a free Kindle promotion on my very first book on 24th November, the day after the book was published. I had promoted my book in a few forums and also have it listed on my own blog. But I have no idea what to make out of my stats. I want to know if my book is performing on average, bad or above average, during these free promotion days. Also, how do you think it will influence my performance after the free kdp promo is over?

Here are the stats of downloads so far:

24th Nov - 41 downloads
25th Nov - 32 downloads
26th Nov - 43 downloads
27th Nov - 23 downloads so far

Here is the sales rank:

#3,437 Free in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Free in Kindle Store)
#4 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Religion & Spirituality > New Age > Meditation (for free books only)
#27 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Religion & Spirituality > Spirituality (for free books only)

Two paid units had been ordered before I ran the promotion and I have got one 5 star review from a customer whose purchase has been verified by Amazon.

Those are excellent numbers, and I think you were wise to do the free giveaway immediately after you published your book. You'll probably find that as soon as your giveaway is over, some pages read will begin to show up on your Amazon reports. Some folks who grab the freebies seem to take them on their Kindle Unlimited plan rather than downloading them directly onto their computer. With any luck word of mouth from people who took your book when it was free will spill over and result in some actual paid sales.
At the very least, well over 100 readers have chosen your book. Getting read is a prerequisite to building your readership. Nobody wins if your book wallows among thousands of other new releases and never gets discovered by potential readers. Your free giveaway ensures that your book won't die in obscurity.
Good luck with the whole self-publishing experience.

If you had looked at even one of the thousands of threads about free promotions here, you'd realize that you're wasting your time. Free promotions can work for the first book in a series, for example, but even then you need tens of thousands of downloads to see any significant impact.

The market is flooded with free books, and most of those free downloads will never get read.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with Donald. Giving away your only book for free is a very bad idea. It's an especially bad idea to do so when the book is first published, because you've wasted its time in New Releases.

Now anyone who might otherwise have bought the book have already gotten it for free. Because it's your only book, those who do read the freebie and enjoy it will have no other books of your to pick up. (It can make sense to have a freebie giveaway with the first book in an already-published series.)

Though it may seem exciting to think that dozens of people may soon be reading your book, in practice a lot of those who snatch up freebies have hundreds of books on their Kindles already, most of which they will never read.

And I'm afraid you didn't move enough copies for the word-of-mouth effect to kick in (given the above). That takes thousands of free units moved.

Religion and spirituality never sell very well anyway, unless you're a well-known pastor. Sorry to be a downer! Welcome to KDP.

I think you lost 139 possible customers. Ranking in the Free Kindle Store detracts from your ranking in the Paid Kindle Store -- while you were marking time, others were selling. And if they do like your only book, so what? They have nowhere else to go except another writer.

Thank you for your replies. It was very good to know and helped me to learn something from all the experienced authors here. I will be wiser when I publish my next book :)
