Run campaign as quickly as possible was what I used. Does shortening the campaign time period help?
That setting will result in impressions drying up after a time; it used to be a month or two, but your experience with 3 weeks sounds about right now, given how saturated the system is.

If you want the campaign to last longer, use the "low and slow" setting. Either way, don't expect a lot of impressions unless you raise the bids (generally, beyond anything that's profitable for an e-book at $2.99).

You're looking for the holy grail we're all seeking. Experimentation is the only way to find what works best for you. Genre, blurb, cover, look inside and money to spend are your key elements. Money, as usual, the most enticing factor for drawing attention.

Let me help. I spend about $3000 a month on AMS. Now that I know how it works, I'm never leaving it. It's golden.

Product display ads. I've used a few, but can't get enough impressions out of them. Also, they only target genre's. The key with AMS is to target AUTHORS.

Find your genre, go to the Amazon Top 100 lists, and pick out every book that looks or sounds like yours. Target that author.
Then go to the newly released lists in your genre and target the best selling ones. They don't always make the Top 100.
Keep adding names until you get to at least 300 authors.

Then, whenever those authors have a new book out and their readers come looking for it and they search for that author's name, you get a bounce from their new release bounce. That's how you consistently get sales via AMS. And the more author names you can throw at it the better, so long as they are in your niche within your genre.

Target the authors like you, especially those with books that LOOK like yours. That's the key.

There are authors doing well with Product Display ads. I’m not yet, but I’m learning. Check out the book on that subject by Brian Meeks.

In case new people freak out, I'm only spending 1-2 dollars a day with my latest batch of ads. My total expenditure on ads is just over $100 for Aug-Dec and I was experimenting with product display ads (they didn't seem to help me, so I have yet to master those).

Your AMS ads can be tweaked to where you earn more than they spend. It's just unfortunate you can't track borrows except by looking for jumps in rank or getting page reads because many times my ads have a high percentage probability of causing that borrow.

That 5k must bring in sales. Nothing like investing in yourself.

I've just started using the AMS ads. They're working for my non-fiction but I show few sales for my fiction. Except, my "pages read" are improving.

I paid twenty-seven dollars for November ads.

I pay $150 a month. My ads pay for themselves, but I'm not sure they make money. Still, I've been able to buy my way into a crowded genre and sell books.

Product display ads seem to affect my kindle unlimited sales/borrows. Not being able to track kindle unlimited borrows means I can't really say how effective they are.

Your only recourse is to keep track of how much you spend total on AMS ads and how much total you earn on royalties and make sure your earnings are more than your spending. If I could have one thing for Christmas from the Zon, it would be borrows tracking.

Yupper. Normally, I get charges of $500-$600 applied every three days, but the profits are worth it. And even if I was only making ten percent profits (in reality they are much greater than that) I would still do it. What investment consistently pays off ten percent per month? My first time using AMS was amazing but yet deceiving. I was getting clicks at $0.01 on ten single genre campaigns for almost three weeks and made over 20K that month. In the end, it adjusted to about 0.17. I'm not sure why that happened, but I have one of the single genre campaigns going now at $0.00/click and another at $0.05/click. They rest are between $0.16 and $0.24/click. When I do see the charges getting out of hand, I pause some of the campaigns for a week, of course the next few days the clicks on those are still coming in due to the delays on reporting.

Hello, I was reading this thread and everyone sounds knowledgeable about AMS ads. I have a question and I hope someone can offer some insight.
I am running a sponsored ad. It seemed to be going well through November, until after Thanksgiving. Then I noticed recently that my clicks were not adding up to the daily budget I had set. Very few clicks, and yet, my money was spent early in the day. I started a spreadsheet to keep track of everything. I don't seem to be getting my money's worth for the clicks I'm receiving.
I have contacted AMS with an inquiry, but all I get are responses that say "we're looking into, my colleague will contact you". I gave them dates, acpc, clicks for that date, cost of the click for the particular keyword.
I can't keep spending money on the ad, if my money is being taken for nothing. I am happy to pay for clicks, but I don't seem to be getting the amount of clicks I should for the amount budgeted.
AMS doesn't seem to be able to help me.
Has anyone experienced this?
There doesn't seem to be a lag of AMS reporting clicks. I keep my spreadsheet updated each day about the same time of day, and I don't see that happening.
I don't know what to do. I thought perhaps someone could give me some advice.
I appreciate your help.

I get varied results...

One thing I realised after about 3 years...(not the sharpest knife in the drawer today) is that the cost of sale is based on the total sales of the book (gross). We only receive the royalty component, so for those who haven't, check your actual cost of sales using the royalty to be received not the purchase price of the book.

Cheers

Yes, the figures used on the ad dashboard are not the most useful. I've personally complained about this and suggested corrections. However, I'm not Jeff.
