How to someone at KDP to actually answer an advertising question?

Hello,
Pardon my extreme frustration, and this first draft. I expect it to be ignored as all of my other attempts to reach KDP, but I would like to say I tried all the methods of communication out there. I just had to invest more lost time trying to reach someone at KDP advertising. The frustration chain starts as you can guess at the beginning. First you call Amazon Customer Service since KDP doesn't let anyone know their number. Then after an "interactive" computer grills you about how dare you call them, it finally picks up the word KINDLE. Now I am in the line or que for Kindle tablet support, during next few minutes of eternity, I have my education updated with six repetitions of if I hold the power button on my kindle down for 40 seconds it will restart the device which clears up most problems, was this helpful, Then my education continues about a different model of KINDLE, which I learn that if I hold down the power button for 40 seconds will reset and clear up most problems.

At last a human answers the phone, or a computer with a very think Hindi accent, that will not listen to my request to just transfer me to the department I want since I am in the wrong place until I have finished 20 questions. At the end of all this, the human/automation agrees I am in the wrong spot and ask me to hold.

Many attempts at transfer latter, I get the eastern-bloc automaton human/computer voice, that will not her my question until I finish another interrogation and am I logged into my KDP account at this time.

It seems I must say BLVD not boulevard, and it must be # not apartment, and how dare I not know my +4 of my zip code for a place and new new addresses from. Hurricanes and relocations are such a joy and soothing to the nerves.

So the end of this overly long tale is the question, is how does one get information not found on the KDP advertising control panel about how to target my ads. I have done nicely and would love to continue or do better. I have high hopes of even getting book reviews. It seems some people are happy to read the free kindle book and not leave reviews. I guess we all have to take it the best we can, but it even possible to call KDP directly saving myself an hour of frustration before being given a second dose?

This is my third attempt in a week, which usually result in lost in transfer and then getting back just in time to get the office is closed now recording.

Apparently selling me or other authors on buying advertising is not a high priority at KDP.
I would write KDP but all the emails I have from them are do not reply to this address.

BIG Brother KDP are you watching the forums?

One frustrated writer.

This isn't something that KDP staff can help with, because you, as the publisher, are responsible for learning how to target the ads. There are three types: product-targeted (where you can select books similar to yours), interest-targeted (select one or more genres or subgenres), and sponsored products (select keywords or keyphrases, and set a bid for each).

Search the forums for "ams advertising"; there are lots of discussions on targeting.

I paused all my AMS campaigns in September, because the system is now flooded with traditional publishers and newbies who bump up the bids to ridiculous levels. If you're doing well so far, you're already ahead of the game, so maybe it should be you teaching others how to target their ads :) Good luck.

This does sound frustrating. To contact KDP, use the Contact link at the bottom right of this page. As you've unfortunately discovered, Customer Service and supplier services do not talk to each other. We're not customers!

  • You've demonstrated why KDP does not offer phone service to the rest of us.
  • Customer Service is for customers, not those availing themselves of the KDP platform.
  • KDP does not monitor the forum.
  • Giving your book away for free is not marketing; it's just chasing away paying customers.
  • Free books are often unread, therefore a lack of reviews is not surprising.
  • When a book is purchased, only 0.4% of readers will post a review -- you can't force them.
  • As publisher, advertising in any venue is your responsibility, not the venue in which you advertise.
  • It's not Amazon's job (or concern) to tutor or advise you -- you're purchasing a service, not hiring a consultant.
  • You contact KDP by using the Contact Us button at the bottom of the page; state your request succinctly and politely, not as above.
