Hello all,

I have published my first book recently and I have sold quite a few copies !

I decided to write my first book on an Industry that I have had a keen eye on for several years. I have wrote a comprehensive guide for eSports. It provides fundamental knowledge in understanding the nascent, complex and vast landscape.

Esports is essentially competitive gaming. It has been around for over 20 years but only in the last few years has really made great strides. By 2020, the industry is expected to generate a global revenue of approximately $1,5 billion!

Please take time to read this book and provide me with constructive feedback :)

Has any one come across eSports and what are your thoughts on Industry ? What would you want to know about the competitive gaming industry that is growing exponentially right now ?

Well, you're not likely to get any takers since you've provided neither title nor link. Personally, I would advise against it. At most you'll receive comments and suggestions regarding cover, blurb and LITB. And they will be honest, brutally so, perhaps overly much. If you decide to solicit critiques, thick skin is advised, and I mean thick, as in mutant rhinoceros immune to slings, arrows and deadly radiation. If your book is selling as well as you claim, concentrate on marketing and work on your next book. Good luck.

You have sold a handful of copies on the .com site, it's true, but none on the UK site, where you have 19 rave reviews (several duplicated and not one of them a verified purchase), each of them looking slightly more suspicious than the last.

A glance at your look inside (where, incidentally, you have no front matter) just convinced me that you've taken the thesis/dissertation you wrote to get your degree and published it as a book, with no evidence that you've so much as tweaked it before flogging it on A'zon. I don't know whether the rest of the book gets slightly more technical, but the LI is packed full of woolly padding.

Sorry, but I have no interest in either buying or reviewing your book. If I wanted to know anything about esports (which to most parents simply means what your kid does every night when they get home from school) then I have a teenager upstairs who can tell me everything I need to know for free - well, probably not for free - maybe some Microsoft points and a six-pack of Dr Pepper, plus two graduate sons who probably know more about it than you seem to.

Just my thoughts. J

Likely a one poster wonder, signed up in the last few days, looking to promote the book.

Interesting recent article.

Agreed - though he'll probably come back trying to convince us that all those reviews are 100% genuine!

It was an interesting article, but unsurprising that the gaming community suffers the same sort of sexual harassment/bullying issues found in every other part of society.

I was slightly surprised that the author of the article came across as somewhat patronising when he talked about welcoming females into the fold, so to speak. It only seemed to matter that women were being looked after when it came to making them loyal paying customers. Maybe just my viewpoint, or the fact that I should have been asleep an hour ago at least!

Best wishes. J

I thought esports are what hipsters watch while smoking e-cigarettes. The word 'sport' should never be applied to anything practiced by Mtn Dew swilling potheads.
You're supposed to enlist beta readers and get constructive feedback before you publish. Your post comes off as a veiled attempt to generate sales, not solicit critique. Pass.

You can't smoke pot and do well at esports. It requires a high degree of eye hand coordination and fast reaction times that getting stoned would prevent. These people are uber competitive and have just as much right to the term sports as people who do the physical stuff.

I watch Blizzard esports - mainly World of Warcraft arena matches and Starcraft matches. Those are really exciting to watch when you are into the games and know just enough to know how awesome these players are compared to you. I also enjoy how the technology and announcing has changed to try and increase the audience awareness of what's going on so that someone like me who has only a paltry understanding of Starcraft can see when they are doing a rather difficult zerg move to take out the enemy base. That's where the eye hand coordination comes into play as these people twitch their troops back and forth to avoid getting taken out while coaxing shots to go in range to take some outliers down while their opponent is busy with another distraction elsewhere. They also have to react quickly to events and adjust on the fly. This could involve changing the entire upgrade tree they had planned for their technology research to compensate for their opponent's decision.

As more people get into gaming, esports will become more popular.

I have sent my book to several peers and friends - they may not be “verified purchases” on amazon but they are genuine reviews...

If that’s your opinion then don’t want you reading my book - although may enlighten your ignorance on the industry :)

I did this post to genuinely get some feedback - I am not bothered about sales of my first book but about the book itself - I welcome constructive criticism so that I can improve on my next one

Peers and friends are not allowed to leave reviews as they are rarely objective - even 'genuine' ones will be removed.
