I've been learning how to use Kindle Create and since I am fairly new to KDP I didn't already have a system down for how I do things. I love the idea of Kindle Create and when I search here on the forum I don't see many posts regarding it. I know it is still in beta and I have had a few little issues with it but have not reported them because I don't know if it is me or the program.

In one book formatting was perfect except one paragraph was centered. As far as I could tell the original .doc file was correct. Also the chapter finder function still needs work.

Could we start a thread on Kindle Create experiences here? Some of you veterans may not use it because you already have your system down for how you do things and those of us just now getting on the boat are game for this program.
Personally I think it is great especially for writers that may be... formattingly challenged like me. I just wish you could do more editing in it. You can make changes but I wonder have any of you made major changes using it without getting really confused?

I wish we could download the finished version in something other than pdf so we can make changes to it outside of the program then re-upload. That way you see exactly what you are getting and don't get extra spaces etc. Does that make sense?

Any experiences to share?
Have you reported any bugs?

Like KDP Print, it does seem to have more than its share of problems. You might search for posts by William Thompson; he has played about with it and rather likes it. He gives specific tips in several of his posts about KC.

Personally, I think it's folly to lock yourself into Amazon, as all of Amazon's proprietary templates do. (I know it's not actually a template, but I can't think of a better word, other than sly pooh trap.) Apple sells a lot of books for me, Barnes & Noble sells some, plus Kobo in Canada, Overdrive for libraries, and so on. Why shut yourself out of those markets?

(Don't trust KDP to publish a print edition. Don't trust CreateSpace to publish an ebook. Each does one thing well and the other thing poorly.)

Good luck! -- NJ

Thanks for your reply I have yet to branch out. I think that is my next goal. I’m unfocused af some days but don’t have money to pay for someone to format the way I want. I tried Createspace and found it frustrating so I retreated back to the the known.

You need to search again, there are lots of posts on the subject, mostly negative. Don't feel like beating a dead horse at this point. When the program improves it will be something to talk about again.

Kindle Create is nothing more than Word with basic Styles pre-programmed. You could always teach yourself to use Word w/Styles and have greater freedom than is allowed with the beta program. There are plenty of tutorials on YouTube; it can be picked up in just a few hours of studies and practice.

I guess that’s really what I wanted to know was of it really was that much better than just formatting yourself.

I used it once and it threw some double space in there. I’m sure it was my fault but if it’s going to do things like that what is the advantage. Thank you for the responses, I had done searches and just had not found much about it sorry. In my opinion it sort of sucks.
