Hi,

I am an author who recently self-published a novel in the Spanish language, and I decided to enrol my book on KDP select. The thing is that I wanted to try for the first day (they suppose to give you three days to cancel it), and 24 hours later, the "cancel" option literally disappeared. I just
CAN´T cancel it. The second thing is the "Free book promotion". I put my book for free for 24 hours. But after that time, my book is still for free. And I don´t know for how long now. The offer had to finish yesterday, and I can do nothing to change it.

After these experiences, I wonder if the options KDP Select give you its just to make you enrol in the KDP System. YOU ARE NOT able to cancel anything, even if you are "in time".

Very disappointed with the service. I´m thinking about unpublishing my book.

I think within the 3-day window you can cancel by merely unchecking the automatic-renewal flag, but that's not obvious and my memory may be fuzzy on this.

Do realize that the promos (unless you change the settings) will run on Pacific (West Coast) time. If you're in Spain, e.g., this could be confusing.

See what others here say.

You can use the Contact Us option (bottom of this page, right side) to ask Support for help. I'm sure that if you explain the circumstances -- POLITELY! -- they will cancel for you.

I agree that Select is generally a poor choice. Like many things, including free "promotions," it works for some people in some circumstances, but overall it's something that only benefits Amazon.

(Don't trust KDP to publish a print edition. Don't trust CreateSpace to publish an ebook. Each does one thing well and the other thing poorly.)

Good luck! -- NJ

Thank you very much for your answers and for your help. I tried to cancel both, but no way. I will write to KDP support.

The reason you could not cancel is because you had already used one of the benefits of Select, that is a free day. You can't both get a benefit of Select and not be in Select.
