Advert Rejection

I have tried 3 times to have my book set up on advertisement through Kindle but it keeps getting rejected as an unsuitable image. However I have had e-mails sent to me by Kindle with adverts from other authors using exactly the same image from Shutterstock. Is it just me or is their favoritism here for authors that make more sales? Anyone else had the same issue?

Not favoritism, just the inevitable random inconsistent decisions you get with a site as large and complex as Amazon.

Personally, I wouldn't want a cover using a stock image that a number of other authors are using. I think you should make a new cover, using an innocucous image(s). It's good to refresh your covers occasionally and have alternatives.

I'm not saying favoritism doesn't occur. I know someone who had a cover rejected for AMS because of an excessive use of guns on the front cover, even though a number of famous authors do the same.

BTW, are you sure it's the image that has been rejected and not your book title?

The AMS rejection e-mails are notorious for misinformation: in other words, they could tell you the ad was rejected for the cover image, when it was really the ad copy or the headline. As Gary says, check every part of the ad against the AMS ad guidelines. There should be a link in the rejection e-mail to download a PDF copy.

Yup. And punctuation, and capitalization!
