I am trying to publish a poetry book as paperback, using their launch options for the cover. First it said it needed to be 24 pages due to the spine text. Now, it says, it needs to be 100 pages.

Does anyone know about spine text, how to adjust it, etc....to keep the book under 100 pages?

In Createspace the spine starts at around 130 pages. i suspect for your book spine text will not be an option.

I appreciate your answer. I am sorry to sound so inexperienced, as I am not good at putting together these things. I only got through the kindle version for 2 books accomplished.

Now, I am trying to get them to be paperback

But how do I remove spine text to get this book to go through to paperback?

I have written one that is approx. 50 pages and one that is approx. 25.

They are just basically typed up on word. And I have been using the features on the site for the cover.

But I keep running into the spine text issue.

These are just basic poetry books and the shorter one is poetry affirmations.

Heidi, you will find that the CreateSpace publishing process is much easier. Use the "Guided" option and get a physical proof copy (assuming you are in the U.S.).

My Guide is 145 pages, and there is room on the spine for the title and author's name, but just barely. So no, spine text is certainly not an option for you, even if you combine the two books.

There used to be a tradition of short books of poetry called "chapbooks." That's a term you might use, though I don't know how many people will recognize it. It has the great advantage of telling people exactly what to expect (Writer's Digest defines it as a collection of poetry or fiction, generally not more than 40 pages).

Good luck! -- NJ

I have published 3 paperbacks on KDP beta version. The first two were long and the spine text is fine. The third one was very short and there was no issue as KDP automatically removed the spine text. I am now having difficulty with spine text because my fourth book is more than 100 pages but less than 200 pages. It does not seem to like this length of book. I keep receiving messages to tell me I should make the spine text smaller. It does not tell me there is anything wrong in the previewer. It is only when I publish the book that I receive an email from KDP. When I look in the help files it says that it will be changed automatically. If I try to delete the spine text entirely it also deletes the title of my book and the my name on the front cover. Not sure if there is a way round this or not.

Go to CreateSpace.

(Don't trust KDP to publish a print edition. Don't trust CreateSpace to publish an ebook. Each does one thing well and the other thing poorly.)
