Hi I have a text document created via Kindle Create. I want to insert images into it as an illustration of my story. I am using a Mac Pro lap top. When I press the insert button the option to the right taking me to the image placement facility remains pale and inactive. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong for this not to be active.
Thanks. Have spent a long time wrestling with this

Sorry, no. This is a good example of why it's better to learn basic HTML and CSS and use ebook creation software to produce an epub. You can make the book look exactly as you want without fighting the idiosyncrasies of a plug-and-play program.

My guess is the file created by Kindle Create is of a type which won't accept images. What is the file extension?

You don't need to use Kindle Create. You can just use Word and insert images in that and then just upload the Word file. You need to be scrupulous in the use of styles but it can certainly be done and many have used this method. There are other ways (creating an ePub as already mentioned) but I suggest see how you get on with Word first. I think you can also use Apple's version of Word but do a bit of searching on here first and elsewhere to double check.

If you use Word to insert, use the 'insert' function to insert your picture. Just dropping it into your document using cut and paste won't necessarily work.

And check the Zon's picture and illustration standards ahead of time (size, dpi, etc).

Good luck.

It's best to make your book perfect, then pour it into Kindle Create. Any edits made in Kindle Create are self defeating because you still have to go back to your source document and correct them there. Instead of trying to tame a buggy piece of beta software, why don't you apply yourself to learning Word/Styles? If you already have word-processing-level competency with Word, it's only a matter of hours to teach yourself Styles, which will allow you to use Word as a formatting tool.

Just a further thought. Would the Pages text facility on my Apple Mac Pro be the equivalent to Word and the best way to start the process. I am a bit of a novice with regard to all this. In the past I have simply created e books with the Apple text facility called text edit. It has worked. Now though I wanted to insert pictures and that is what took me down the Kindle Create route. Anyway please only reply if you have time.

Would the Apple facilities namely text edit and pages acieve the same straightforward result or do I need to invest in Word.
Basic questions I know.

Result! Following all the tips below and notwithstanding my varied thoughts thereafter I persevered. I followed some of your clues and with a bit of trial and error my new book is now available from KDP. It is a childrens' story complete with my illustrations.
So thanks again to you all.
