I've been very lucky with my last book which has done well on both Kindle TextBook format and also Createspace print on demand.

My next book really needs colour to be fairly accurately printed.

Does anyone know how best to do this? Does create space have an ICC colour profile they recommend previewing against?

If you want absolute accuracy, then no POD press will satisfy you, I'm afraid.

I've had reasonably good results going by eye with a professionally calibrated monitor, good lighting, and using one of the Web Coated SWOP profiles (I forget which one at the moment; it's been a while since I've done a paperback). I upload CMYK PDF press-quality files. There's some debate on the CS forums about whether any of it matters, though, so you may want to check there.

thanks for the pointers - I do have a professional colour accurate monitor and moderately controlled environment .. I just wanted the new book to have diagrams and images that didn't look like they were printed on those laser-printers that are ok for letters and presentations but are a disaster for anything that requires even moderate accuracy

thanks again

You could always set up the book on Createspace as a draft and then order a proof copy. I've noticed some variations in color reproduction from run to run when I've ordered author copies, but my experience is mostly with covers.
