Hello

I installed Kindle Create Add in for Word with no issues and found it fantastic. Then it started crashing Word, I think because an antivirus program marked it. I have now deleted all the components of the Add-in I can find but when I try to download it to add it in fresh, I get the error message that installation has failed because a previous version of the program is already installed. I would love to have this add-in back. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Somewhere in your computer you most likely have a cookie that is stopping it.
You might try to go thru those in your computer.

At the moment, because you haven't removed the KC add-in from Word in the correct and proper way, Word still thinks that the KC add-in is still installed(even though you have physically deleted it).

What you should have done was to remove the add-in in Word by doing this(I'm using Word 2007):

  • In Word, click on File > Word Options(or Options) > Add-Ins and remove the Kindle Create add-in from the list.
  • Now you should be able to re-add the KC add-in again to Word without any problems.

Just remove the add-in as described above and you should have no problems re-installing it into Word.

Another option for you, if you continue to have problems with the KC add-in is to download and use the actual Kindle Create app from Amazon.com which is a standalone app that can create a kpf file from a loaded Word doc in the same way as the Word add-in version.

Why not try my free Sigil plugins now available on MobileRead?

OpenDocHTMLImport - converts ODT HTML(Writer) docs directly to epub.

NormalizeScrivEpub - reformats, finishes off and normalizes Scrivener-generated epubs

LogicalTOCStyler - allows users to easily style the Logical TOC(Device TOC) as they prefer

You can download all these free plugins from The Sigil Plugin Index on the MR Forum

I had originally uninstalled the add-in as you said, as well as a folder from the hard drive and was getting the message above, but your other suggestions are helpful. Thanks.

Uninstall the program. Then reinstall it. There can be elements of the add-ins that remain and will be unistalled with the program.
