Thanks Sax, And Anna and Lisa--aw heck, the whole bunch of you have been very encouraging.

So in my worst two months ever I made less than $200, but over all last year I averaged $400 a month.

Most of my sales volume last year was at 99 cents, and for all of summer and fall my books were .99, 2.99 and 2.99. I raised prices to 2.99, 3.99, 3.99 and my three month average profit is now $700. I am hoping the lift in price and the extra book will boost this month's earnings back to around that, but it might be too late for this month...I am likely to only make $300 or $400.

My goal for this year is to be averaging about $2000 by December...and that definitely means increasing my library of books for sale!

I have high hopes for the collaboration, but it rests on my partner right now and has slowed down a bit, so I will be working on Mitzy 4 and a new mystery series until my partner is ready for the editing phase. But despite the delay I am really proud of The Tangle Saga and can't wait to see it come out!

Hi Traci, best of luck with your omnibus.
Its not good to hear so many stories of people struggling with sales. If I can add my morsel I've only one book and my last sale was at the end of February. Since then I've had another free promotion which went well for me but there was no follow through at all.
I'm spending my time now writing my next book and studying advertising techniques. I've read diamondlifestyle's blog on promotion and found it very informative but I'm having to delay trying to implement some of the ideas for a few weeks.

Anyway, best of luck with your idea and I hope it works for you

Thank you for following up with your post and including those details, Traci. It's nice to see someone brave enough to share hard numbers. I hope you're averaging $4,000 a month by December!

I'm begining to find that promotion isn't necessarily worth doing that much of while I've only got 2 ebooks out. I'm doing a few bits here and there every week but nothing too time consuming, mostly getting to know people on facebook, goodreads and a few other places like here so as I get a bigger library out there will be some people to ask to help me get the ball rolling. Occasionally I aplly to a blog to try and get them to review my books.

For now I think my time is better spent writing so I've almost finished a 20k word short, I've got my third novel to look over before it goes to my editor and my second novel should be back from my editor next week ish, when all those are out and i've got 3 novels and 2 shorts out there I'll do a little more promo.

Hey folks the kiddies are off from school. Mom's staying home with them, she does not have time to read. The YA books, dare I say, are doing well this week.

My YA books are doing terribly, after last month was my best month ever. This is back in the dregs...like when I first got started. I hope things pick up after spring break is over.

Sorry to learn you are not selling many copies. There are a couple experts who showed up recently who might be able to give you a few pointers in how they sold their first million. I think they are busy on Amazon's political forums at the moment.

Lol...I'll keep my eye out. What i need is yet another magic formula for success. ; ) I think, if I am wise I will just take the modest man's wisdom and run with it.

Hello Jessmountfield. I'm sorry I didn't respond yesterday but I think I was in the land of nod when your posted your advice.

I agree with you that nothing seems to be moving sales much at the moment and I'm going in the same direction as you are. I got past 29,000 words on my next book today and have ideas for making my first book into a series as well as an idea for a series of short stories.

The trouble is I suspect I'm going the same way as several people posting here, I've more ideas than time to complete them, so I'm just keeping my nose to the grindstone. I don't feel that having several projects on the go at the same time will work for me.

I hope your books quickly start to produce heaps of sales.

Yo Traci,

Seems to me that the answer is just to keep writing new stuff and make sure each new book has references to your other books so that you get a compounding effect from the "Buyers who bought this book also bought - "
Right at this time I have 20 books up on Kindle but most of these are of the self-help and how-to variety so they don't take long to write..... less than a week in some cases. But they all refer to each other so I get ongoing sales. This month it looks like I will sell around 600 paid sales from all Amazon countries. Last month it was 361. The month before around 250. The maximum return I've had from USA is $600 in one month and from the UK about half this.
How the hell can I retire on this pocket money? -:)

I'm going to go with the "one more book" theory of success. If I keep releasing one more book, eventually I'll have that right combination of character and plot that sends THE BOOK shooting to the stars. I'll be in wonderment because that book won't feel any different than the other ones...and then I'll dance around the house...quit my job...and start the next one...
