Right, if you want your cover included, then you must upload the image and point to it in the html code.

(I don't do this.)

Thanks cub06h,
Would it do the trick if I add a cover image using Mobipocket?

I think that would work. (I haven't tried it.)

If you are comfortable working in html, you can down the book's html from the Preview and insert a hotlink there. Then you zip the html file and the image together and upload them as a package.

No.

Upload your cover at the Amazon DTP.

He wants the cover to be included within the book, so as to be visible when the ebook is read.

Yes, I understood the message.

What did you think I thought?

You told him to "upload his cover at the Amazon DTP" which is what he would do if he were uploading a cover to display on the Amazon store. What he must do, if he wants the cover to be displayed within the book, is to include it in his book file. He asks if he can do this with a Mobipocket *.prc file. Are you saying he can't? This would be useful information, if true.

I’m not sure what you mean, Cub.

Doesn’t he want his cover to show in the Amazon book list AND on the Kindle book that people buy?

I can’t test right now, to be POSITIVE it won’t work when uploaded from within Mobipocket Creator, but here is what happened to me earlier – before I started working on CJ’S EASY AS PIE :

I created my file in MS Word, then imported it into Mobipocket Creator, added a cover image, and built the file for the Kindle..

The resulting book, complete with cover image, displayed properly in Mobipocket Reader.

Kindle for PC had not been released at that time, so I don’t know if it would have displayed there or not.

BUT… when I published my book at the Amazon DTP, the cover image was not included.

I asked around, and was told that was normal and that I would have to upload the image separately, using the Image Upload feature at Amazon DTP.

When I did that, all was well.

So… my experience was… and others said their experience was the same… that the cover contained within Mobipocket Creator will not get included in the Kindle book published at Amazon DTP.

It WILL get included in other formats.

But, of course, incorrect information has been passed around before, so it’s always possible that is what happened in this case.

I’d like to test it to be sure, but can’t right now…

Do you have anything ready that you could publish right now to test it?

Would you be willing to follow the steps on my website to clean up your MS Word file, import it directly into Mobipocket Creator, add a photo and publish it?

I really think you’d like doing it that way, and for a prolific writer such as yourself, it could increase your published output by about a zillion percent.

(I feel like I’m trying to convince one of my kids to eat his spinach.)
