Just got an email back from KDP support, and as usually pretty dang general.
My question is regards to preorders. I know all the KDP "terms", etc.
Currently I am working with a NY Times bestselling author.
A mainstream author who is moving to selfpub for their N American rights.
We utilized Kindle Pre-order last year for the launch of her 17th novel successfully - 90 days out.
Could have done better building if had it up sooner - could have utilized Ads, etc. for increased marketing.
My question is... I see that large publishers get to put a placeholder, description and release date for KINDLE and TPB for pre-order 8 months out.
Who would I need to speak with? What's the work around for this, etc...
Sorry, if you publish through KDP, you have to follow the KDP rules. The author may be someone famous, but as you are now the publisher, you are a non-Big-Five indie publisher. Basically Amazon doesn't have the same deals to offer to indies as they do to long-established publishing houses, and you can see their point. They do make a platform available that was non-existent 8 or 10 years ago.
