I love Kindle Create and notice it's the same software as they used on Pronoun. Can anyone tell me what the original programme is, and where I can get it for Windows XP? I'm working on several computers and Kindle Create only works on the one I like least.

Cheers, Ellen

I'm afraid that Kindle Create only works on Windows 7 or later versions. I also believe that this also applies to all the other Kindle apps as well. For a Mac it's OSX 10.9 or later.

Why not try my free Sigil plugins now available on MobileRead?

ZoteroNotesImport - Imports Zotero endnotes into epubs

ZoteroRefsImport - Imports Zotero references and creates a new bibliography in epubs

MendeleyXMLImport - Imports Mendeley references or endnotes into epubs

You can download all these free plugins from The Sigil Plugin Index on the MR Forum

Do you know who originally created the software? It's the same as Pronoun and D2D.

Sorry, I don't know who created the software. As far as I am aware, Kindle Create is written by Kindle -- they own the copyright. I regard KC as proprietary software that will produce a kpf file that is only uploadable to Kindle(and no other ebook vendor).

It's not the same as pronoun, and it is ABSOLUTELY not the same as D2D. What D2D does is completely different.

While Amazon has purchased some software companies over the years (MOBIPocketCreator), it did not purchase KindleCreate, which is really nothing but a template with a rendering engine attached. Anyone who can use KC could just format their own Word file and upload it to the KDP, instead of limiting themselves with a .kpf.

And Win 7 is really the oldest Windows OS anyone should be using. Support for XP disappeared long ago, so vulnerable to all sorts of internet nasties.

As for an alternative to Kindle Create, the best is a validated epub, the same (but without the cover) that one would upload to any other online bookseller. Second best is a well-formatted Word doc, built with paragraph and heading styles. There are some pointers in my blog, third post. (This is address to the OP, of course, not to William, whose wisdom I have quoted.)

(Don't trust KDP to publish a print edition. Don't trust CreateSpace to publish an ebook. Each does one thing well and the other thing poorly.)

Good luck! -- NJ

The alternative to Kindle Create is to learn how to use Microsoft Word/Styles. That's all KC is anyway.
