I am currently writing a story where a woman sings a song she has written herself to her new born child. On the word document, I have centred and hard returned each line. How can I format the song for kindle to prevent roll-over and paragraph sized spaces between each of the lines. The rest of the book is formatted to the normal requirements,
Also, the last two ebooks I published on Amazon, I downloaded the word document and was happy with the conversion. Is there a benefit in converting to HTML?
When you say you "downloaded" the Word document, I assume you mean "uploaded." And if uploading a Word document works, don't worry about html. If you plan to tinker with the html code that's different, but for straight uploading don't worry about that step.
For your song lyrics, centering with a hard return should work. I've done the same thing myself--a story with some of my original songs included.
Normally there should be no space between paragraphs. Look at any commercially published fiction book on your shelf. Paragraphs are indented on the first line, not spaced out.
If however for some reason you want extra space between paragraphs, then just create a new Style for the songs, in which the "paragraph" (ie the line) has 0 space before and 0 space after (you'll find that under Format > Paragraph in Word). Good luck!
