Just wondering what is the best size to go for where a front cover image is concerned? For instance my Kindle Paperwhite has a smaller screen (800 x 1200 px) than the Kindle Fire so I've done an image at 625 x 1000 px to allow for a small 'screen border' (if that makes sense...), or should it also be 800 x 1200 px? Or some other size?

To confuse you ....
I make my book covers at Canva.com and use the custom dimensions.
The front covers are 3125 px x 4167 px.

That's far too small. Mine are 1800 x 2700 pixels, and even that's not large enough for the latest generation of e-readers.

I also use Canva, nice & simple (like me where pic sizes are concerned) :)

Kindle cover? That one
Facebook banner? That one
Twitter post? That one.
Thank you Canva :)

Well I did some SE queries a while back and for Amazon Kindle Paperwhite I found that the physical screen size is 800 x 1200 px and that the front cover size should be at least 625 x 1000 px, but ideally 1563 x 2500 px (jpeg/tiff). So, why even bigger at 1800 x 2700 px? Is this because kindle readers resize images to fit the screen and so smaller images would become pixelated when expanded, whereas larger images would still look ok when reduced in size?

You can always go down in resolution and keep a sharp image, but if you have to go up, it will be fuzzy.

From https://goodereader.com/blog/electronic-readers/the-best-large-screen-e-readers:

The Jetbook Color 2 is basically the same hardware as the first generation device and the main difference is the screen and the faster performance because of it. The e-reader itself features a 9.7 inch e-ink Triton 2 Display with a resolution of 1600×1200 pixels.

That doesn't include tablets: https://i1.wp.com/thedigitaldisciple.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Tablet-Screen-Master-2016-09-21-Alpha-Sort.jpg

Right, so better if I go with a larger image in case it has to be reduced instead of a smaller image in case it has to be enlarged by the reader. Get it :)
