I'm looking at pulling my book from Smashwords and its distributors and publishing solely with Kindle. Will people who have previously purchased and received my book though Smashwords, iBooks etc - will it still be available in their library to read? I don't want to pull it if this happens and I can't seem to locate a clear answer.

Yes, they should still retain a copy in their account.

The thing to be aware of, is that once you pull your books from SW, it takes a while for it to be taken down from ALL of the other platforms. You need to do a search and make sure your books are down from everywhere before enrolling in KDP Select. The bots do search for your books elsewhere and you will get a notice from KDP if your book is found for sale on another site. KDP takes the EXCLUSIVE TOS seriously. More so than any other part of the contract.

It can take forever. SW uses KOBO among its distributors. The problem is KOBO themselves use some very obscure sub-distributors. There is one small outfit in Australia and another in Canada that refuse to play ball and often don't respond to requests to take down a book. But, annoyingly, the Amazon bots discover those sites, which of course is problematic if you've decided to move over to KDP select.

Which is why it's best to make the decision once, and stick with it.

A couple of years ago, I thought I'd be clever and try rotating a few books in and out of Select. I soon discovered it wasn't worth the effort, so I kept them wide.
