I have an ebook currently out with KDP Select and I want to make sure I understand something correctly. I want to publish my paperback here shortly with KDP. Do I have to wait until my 90 days are up with KDP Select to publish the paperback with another company? My term date ends April 11th, 2018.

Your paperback and digital book are two different 'animals'.
Just don't publish the digital version elsewhere until the 90 days are up AND you haven't ticked it to renew.

Select ONLY locks in your eBook. You can sell your paper and audio (if you make one) versions anywhere.

You will almost certainly have less trouble if you publish through Amazon's CreateSpace division.

(Don't trust KDP to publish a print edition. Don't trust CreateSpace to publish an ebook. Each does one thing well and the other thing poorly.)
