Hello fellow KDPers! I am excited to join the community!

My apologies if this has been posted previously, but I just uploaded my cover art to My Bookshelf, and it looks really distorted for some reason. The image is blurry and the text lines are shaky. I made my cover art in Photoshop, sized it down to 800 x 1000 pixels with the highest possible quality, and saved it as a JPEG.

My questions are: 1) Will the image show up more clearly on Amazon's website once I list the book? or 2) Do I need to reformat it differently somehow?

I attached a screenshot so you can see what I mean.

Thank you for your help!

The preview thumbnail is scaled down using a linear algorithm, which produces low quality results quickly. This will not affect the final image displayed on the website.

Fantastic! That's what I needed to know. So the image will be clearer on the actual website.
Thank you, mrlasers!

Yes, should be a lot clearer. You can still end up with some ugly artifacts, since Amazon doesn't use a great resizing algorithm. It generally won't be too much of a problem, but some images can have a hard time coming out right, especially if they have narrow diagonal lines or very fine gradient/glow effects.

Glad to hear this! I was just coming on to ask the same question, so I'm glad the thumb on Amazon will look better.

Yes, the cover always looks awful in the small preview. However, you need to have 1000 pixels for the shortest side, according to Amazon's new rules. If you have 800 x 1000, you need it to be 1000 x 1250 to keep the dimensions you're using.
