Hello everyone,

Death and Coffee is free this weekend and naturally it's the first time I've thrown it out there. I'd appreciate if anyone has time to give it a read and share any thoughts, or comments - or if you feel extremely generous a review (good or bad!)

Many thanks!

Hmm... thought I had posted this in VoA/P but it appears not.

Is there any way to move it?

You have an extra space between each paragraph, you know.

But good sample. I mean, good writing. I'll get a copy tomorrow!

If you took out the extra spaces, then more would show on your preview. I wanted to know how long the italics were going to last...

Hi,
Clicked on your link ... your cover is awesome. Good job! I read through the Look Inside and I can tell you have a good (and funny) story to tell. The only thing I wanted to point out was the formatting. A lot of people here will tell you that you should have a space between paragraphs OR indents, but not both. Anyway, I think you'll do well this weekend. Good Luck!!! :)

Looks great! I have a friend in the exact field you are writing about. I bet she'd like it and I'll send her a recommendation to read it.

I disagree, terrible cover, it's like bad 90's clip art. It sounds like a fun story but I would make the summary a little longer, since all they have to go by is one sentence. Add more relevant tags, instead of one word tags put funny short story, etc..

So one of us owes the other a Coke, but I forget which one... if it's me, I'm virtually handing you one!

Thank you all for the feedback. I've always been in two minds about the cover, so I appreciate the comments.

Also regarding the format. I hadn't noticed the line issues, so will definitely fix those up after this weekend. You're right about the synopsis/blurb. It is too short. Something else to definitely fix.

Thanks again - this was exactly what I was looking for (versus a story critique)

Every person who downloads a free copy of your ebook will never buy it. Every copy is one less paid sale for an Indie author. The Select freebie program is destroying paid KDP sales. Think about what you are doing.

agreed on the cover. If you have a spare 300-400, 99designs has hundreds of designers world-wide who would submit covers to your 'contest'. I used them - adore results!

There's a guy here who does covers, DivorceDoctor I think his nick is. I just saw his gallery of covers - dunno what he charges, though.

The blurb is great, the opening is super.

The cover art is bit dicey, but: for the love of heaven, don't pay $3-$400 for an eBook cover, especially not one that already has a strong concept, if questionable execution.

I have a couple of cover guys I can recommend to you, if interested (I simply refer: I don't make a dime on covers, so this post is not self-interested), all of whom work for $100-$200 tops, not $3-$400. For $400, assuming photo-manip, you should be getting full wraps (Wraparounds, for print).

Also--there was a guy here, recently, who actually had a nice set of covers in his gallery---what was his name/website, anyone remember? I'm not talking about Todd Hebertson, I already use him, a newish guy? Anyone remember?

Search for jokersupdates contests - we did two. One for a new logo, one for the cover. You'll only see the eight finalists.

i just clicked on the link and it's not free. i assume "this weekend" was supposed to mean saturday and sunday?

i like the cover, although the writing would be better curved around the cup.
