Gang:

In view of the pretty virulent threads here lately, I thought that this post from Galley Cat, discussing a REDDIT meet with Literary Agent Eddie Schneider, about "When Is Your Book Ready to Submit To A Literary Agent," was worth reading--at least the excerpt, if not the entire REDDIT interview/discussion. The Galley Cat excerpt is here: http://www.mediabistro.com/galleycat/when-is-your-book-ready-for-an-agent_b53018, and says, in the instant relevant bit:

"I’m a firm believer in the utility of writing groups, and running your book past the eyes of people who also read a lot and are serious about getting into novel writing is a great way to edit for things you’re not going to see yourself. There are also the books Writing to Sell by Scott Meredith and Self-Editing for Fiction Writers by Renni Browne and Dave King. They’re helpful and worth tracking down. "--reposted from REDDIT/GalleyCat

The entire interview, which of course includes some idiots, (like open mike night, can't be helped) is here:

http://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/uzmf7/im_literary_agent_eddie_schneider_query_me/

The latter is worth reading for anyone who can. I don't actually expect most folks to do so--but it's all about the facts, figures and numbers of publishing; prejudices, how prejudices affect book selections, etc.

Hope someone here finds this helpful. Hope that some of you DO join Writer's Groups, where you will find a lot more useful information. After all--if your book isn't ready to be given to an agent, it's certainly not ready for publication--right?

YW, Shaddamax:

I hope that they find it useful. I truly do. The whole interview is pretty fascinating, for folks who are willing to read that much material--at least, I certainly thought so.

Yes it was great. Thanks for sharing it. But will they make the connection that getting a novel ready for self publishing is just as important as submitting to agents or publishers? I hope so. But too many people seem to think it;s a 6 month process from "Once upon a time..." to "The end."

Hi, digilady:

You couldn't find the link on GalleyCat? Or MediaBistro? Hang on, let me find it for you and give you a shortlink, in case it's breaking. Try this, this is the official bit.ly shortlink for it, it's been clicked over 400 times:

THAT did it. Hmmm. Methinks we should add your entire post to that KDP blog page - somewhere near the top. You mind? I'll put it in exactly as it is - sig and all.

The link at the top that didn't work has an extra comma at the end of it which is why it's failing. :)
