Uploaded revised MOBI, forgot 2nd tab!

Hi everyone.

My book was published, but I needed to make a few changes, and of course messed up everything...

1. I uploaded a new MOBI, and clicked 'Continue' (or Publish, forget) but forgot all about the checkbox on the second "Rights and Pricing" tab.

2. Got a server error, 'Webpage cannot be displayed', and back on bookshelf status is listed as draft.

3. Went back, clicked the SECOND TAB, clicked the checkbox, and clicked continue. A dialog popped up "Unexpected error, we're looking into it."

4. Tried uploading again, but told was "in review" and changes couldn't be made.

The book is now listed as 'In Review', just as it should be. Although the bookshelf looks OK, book under review, is this going to reflect the new MOBI I uploaded in the first place? Darn it all, that second tab gets me every time!

Thanks for any input!

PS: Of course I'm also locked out now from downloading the Preview, so I can't check if its the right MOBI!

While someone is answering ancient music's question I have a similar question. My book was already published also - and I needed to make a few changes also and I think I messed up too, because I forgot to fill out that it was a second edition or revised edition. I got the same message as ancient music √únexpected error we're looking into it.

Does anyone know of a link that gives instructions for uploading a revised edition of your ebook onto Amazon ?

A few weeks ago there were many errors in the KDP process. I suggested using a different web browser (Google Chrome is my choice) Dunno if this fixed the problem because to the best of my knowledge nobody ever responded to the suggestion. Anyhow, you might try that.

If the book is in Review, it has been submitted and is -- in Review!

notjohn,

Thanks, as always.

I sent a more complete version of this to KDP Support, they should respond tonight (in theory). I'll post their response here for the benefit of Beau and anyone else who has become snagged in this.

Beau, I was so relieved this happened to someone else! The CreateSpace update process is so much smoother. This site lets you proceed, then tells you something is missing (AFTER its too late), then gives this terse message, and finally leaves you in limbo!

Maybe I'll download the other browser and try that.

Best, am

When dealing with the KDP Bookshelf, it gets a bit trickey....

On a re-publish it gets complicated because All of your former entries are "remembered"

If you make any changes, you need to "Save and Continue" to the second page.

the only entry that is NOT "Remembered" is the little Tic box that states that you have the rights to to publish this book.

Failure to click this little box often produces an error on the re publish

moving back and fourth between the two bookshelf pages can cause data loss if you do not save the changes you make when visiting the various pages.

Whenever I upload a new book file I will add a date code to the title page to indicate the date of upload for that particular file.

this will become part of the book that is published and be visible on the Downloadable sample and be visible on the Online preview whenever the book file is viewed there.

The Downloadable sample is an excellent way to determine which book version is in effect. It will change at the same time as the updated Bookfile is published.

The LOOK Inside Will change .... eventually, but not right away.

You do not have to indicate that the book is the "Second Edition" if you do not want. It is an optional thing.

Now that the publish proces is very quick (It used to take a week) you can rapidly tell what is going on and correct any poblems.

Thanks, JT

Best info around on updating. I'm sure many will read it.

Well, go figure. The book is live again. Look Inside has ALREADY REFLECTED the new version. That's just 12 hours from the upload. Maybe it was the polite letter I sent to KDP Support?

As promised, here is the KDP reply. This fellow got the book online again and Look Inside to reflect it within 8 hours from my email. HOORAY, Craig V! (I have removed personal information from the text).
