Hi Everyone

I've published my first book "Baking for Kids" on Amazon and am looking for some feedback if anyone has time. Any comments on the pricing would be apprecated. ($4.20 in the US, £2.04 in the UK) It's under a free promotion at present until the 13th June.

Any reviews would be appreciated.

Thanks

As a result of your free promotion anyone who is even remotely interested now has your book for free, and therefore will never buy it. And every free book being read is one less paid sale. Newbies like you who don't know what the score is, are helping destroy what's left of KDP paid sales.

Love the cover -- maybe make the title and author name bigger to make it stand out. I opened Look Inside and your book is nicely laid out.

FREE promos are an excellent way to gain some visibility, but use them wisely and sparingly. If you haven't noticed already, authors are divided on the subject of giving away books, but do what you think is best for you.

! would definitely buy your book if I had kids!

I think it looks excellent. The layout is very clean and intuitive. Did you do the formatting yourself? It looks very professionally done.

I'd say the price is probably a little steep though for only a 46-page book; however, I don't kow anything about recipe books, so maybe that's the norm with them.

Thank you very much for your feedback. I do have concerns about the text on the cover and intend to make it bigger as you suggest.

Yes some people seem to have strong opinions on free promotions but everyone has a right to their own opinion. I agree it should be done sparingly but as a means to test the market.

Thanks again

Thanks, yes I did the formatting myself although I am not convinced it looks OK in all formats. I have used the Kindle previewer but can't get it right for them all. I guess I just have to accept it as it is. I few people have said that the layout is good so I should leave it alone.

I had based the price on other recipe books in the market but also felt that it was steep for what it is. I have since dropped the price by nearly 50% so hopefully this will encourage more sales.

Hi,

I want you to know what a beautiful cover you have created for your book. Is the little boy you featured your son? He is so cute! I agree that the letters on your title and author name could be larger to catch attention, but don't change anything on your formatting inside of your book. You have done a marvelous job for your first book and should feel proud of your accomplishment.

I use free promotion on holidays sparingly to call readers' attention to my work. So far I have gotten pay-sales after the free days are over for the same titles. There must be more readers out there than we can count! However, I think it is important to have a few more titles in your name to keep the sales from drying up. Good luck to you!

"I have used the Kindle previewer but can't get it right for them all."

The only way to get things looking exactly the same in all formats is to have separate style sheets for various e-readers and tablets, and then use media queries to target various reading devices. Even this doesn't work completely though as there are many people still using very old e-readers (like 5 or 6 year old Sonys for instance) and because there are so many new e-readers beginning to flood the market. Since there are no industry standards for them, they all handle things like centering and margins differently. You can only do so much.

What's needed are some industry standards for e-readers, and we should all make a habit of complaining regularly until we get them. Otherwise we never will.

I (as a newbie) entered the first novel of my series into KDP and gave away well over a thousand the first "free" day. Since then, sales for this book have only improved each and every month. That was about a year ago. Just because someone chooses to give their work away at times, it doesn't force them into the title of "newbie". Perhaps they simply understand how to market in ways you don't. Of course, I'm sure as a seasoned writer who seems to be dependant on KDP sales you already know this.

Format you book for Apple iTunes, Barnes and Noble, and all the others by submittin your MS in Word.doc format to Smashwords at http://www.smashwords.com/ and they'll do it for free. In addition. they'll also list you book on eBook stores worldwide.

Best of luck, your book looks like a winner!
