I hate to complain about KDP twice in as many days, but I have a free promo today on my romance/thriller novel Wreckers Island (pub. under pen name L K Harcourt). It still hasn't started and it's 11.25am (UK time).
Is anyone else running a free promo today having the same problem? And yes I know it's supposed to start at midnight in Seattle but that was more than two hours ago now. What is the point in running a free promo on a Sunday if you lose most of the day before it even starts? Grrrr!!
I've got the opposite problem (just posted about it) mine should have ended 8 am GMT this morning (I'm in the UK too) and it's still running. I wanted to catch the last of the weekend buying so am well peeved.
Pedroluis - you need to be a member of KDP Select, offering your book for sale exclusively through Amazon for three months and in return, it is entered into the Kindle Lending Library. You get paid a reasonable sum every time it's borrowed. You can offer your book for free for five days every three months which is a really good marketing tool.
It would, however, be even better if it started when it's supposed to start and ended when it's supposed to end!!
I've had a response from KDP which effectively amounts to saying that the 24-hour free promo can start more or less any time:
"About the free promotions, the start and end times will be approximately midnight Pacific Standard Time on the day it starts and midnight Pacific Standard Time on the day it ends. Note that due to system latencies, the exact start or end of a promotion can take from a few minutes to several hours, but in some cases this period may be longer.
I checked your account and found that "Wreckers Island" is currently been offered for free."
So I think the moral of this is - if one doesn't want a free promotion scheduled for a Sunday to start lazily around half-way through Sunday afternoon and then draw, unnoticed, to a close half-way through Monday, then Saturday may be a better day on which to start it.
If, by a miracle, I get loads of downloads tomorrow (Mon) then I'll update this thread to recommend we all go free on Mondays!
I sometimes schedule a promo to start Friday, just so it will run all day Saturday in the U.K. Just remember you are tied to midnight Pacific time for the start (and in my experience, it's usually more like 1 a.m. or slightly later).
