Changing from Cheques to EFT

I have just changed from Cheques to EFT for my payment method. I received payments (albeit in the wrong amounts) for Dec. 2012 and Jan 2013. I have outstanding royalties which equal less than $100. I was told: “When you change your payment details, this will only effect royalties collected the change has been made. Unfortunately, it isn't possible to change the payment option for royalties accrued prior to any modifications. I'm very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.” How will I receive my money if they won’t give a cheque for less than $100 and I’m not earning any more money onto that because they are paying me with EFT for my latest earnings? I’ve emailed Amazon several times about this issue and no one can answer me. Can someone please help?

Thank you!

Unfortunately I have no answers for you, as I am just in the process of changing to EFT myself. However, if that is what you have been told, then it is a ridiculous situation.
If no one offers up any advice on here, then I'd perhaps suggest posting this topic in 'General' as that board receives more traffic.

Good luck!

Heather, I have just had a mooch around the site and discovered this thread:

https://kdp.amazon.com/community/thread.jspa?threadID=159155&start=0&tstart=0

It's not quite an answer to your problem, but it is worth a look, and it is enough to make me revert back to cheque payments. At least for the time being.

I emailed the support team via the help page and was told they would mail a cheque for the amount accrued before changing over to EFT even though it was less than $100

Yes i too was told by KDP that they would send a cheque due to me, despite it being less than the $100 . so just wondering when that will come.
Progress at least with EFT payments : a forward step. Much happier about overseas sales. just wish i had more.

When I read about these kinds of mistakes being made (must be a mistake since the company fixed it for some people writing here) it reminds me of the many times a new employee unknowingly gives bad information to a customer: not because he or she wants to but because he or she doesn't yet know all the rules or doesn't yet have all of the most useful ones committed to memory--or, doesn't yet understand exactly how they all work. I worked at a call-in center where this became really apparent. Training was intensive and ongoing but it just doesn't get easy right away, if it ever does.

It's all very complicated what we're asking them to do, and I imagine they hire new people from time to time too. I like to think that our persistent recontacting the powers that be will get the problems taken care of. So far, that's been my case here.

I too have the same problem.
Amazon replied:
"I see that you have changed your payment method and currency from USD to GBP in US Marketplace.

When you change your payment details, this will only effect royalties collected the change has been made. Unfortunately, it isn't possible to change the payment option for royalties accrued prior to any modifications. I'm very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Those outstanding payments will be paid according to the currency and payment method present on your account at the time the royalties were earned.

We’ll process your payment, $ (After 30% tax withholding), via CHECK. It should arrive within the next 2-4 week."

I replied that until Amazon allowed me to select EFT I had no option to be paid by check when I reached $100. I changed once they allowed it. I also found out quite by chance. In addition, Amazon have recently received my W8-BEN and did not withhold tax in April's payment. I do not agree that they should withhold tax for accrued royalties due prior to the change over( for which they would not pay me until I reached $100).
I also see no reason why they can't just press a few buttons and pay into my bank. In paying by check (cheque) they will make me incur a bank charge for conversion. Will I have anything left? It is less than $100.

Thank You

I had the same problem. I changed to EFT and received royalty payments of a couple of dollars when I knew the account had accrued at least $100 of royalties.

They replied saying that they'd issued a cheque which arrived a couple of days later, but from the information they sent, I'd gone over $100 back in February, but not issued anything until I switched to EFT.

They also issued the cheque in the name of the imprint rather than my name so I can't even cash it.

Thank goodness for this Community!!!! I had no idea Kindle $ royalties could now be paid EFT. I have accrued approx $30 but from what's being said on here I'll never be paid these royalties now (I've just changed to EFT on .com sales). This is quite appalling! I don't understand why there's no problem at all with Createspace (also part of Amazon) and yet KDP is such a cock up!!!!!!!
There can be no admin reason for them not paying pre-EFT royalties through the bank. If they don't have the software to detect such pyts due, why can't they arrange the pyt manually?

PS: even if they send me a $ cheque it will cost me more than the amount to cash it!!!!

I queried the issue but was stonewalled - my UK payments were initially set to cheque and when I switched to EFT they paid the entire balance (such as it was) by EFT.

If there was a technical issue then I would expect them to describe it. I'd also expect this policy to have been clearly referenced on the web page in question.
