Today I became aware that I can now receive EFT payments into my UK bank account and i duly updated my remittance details. I have accumulated around about $150 worth of sales over the last year and I previously elected to receive a cheque payment as that was my only option. I have actually been awaiting a cheque from Amazon for some time. I am curious as to whether I will now receive a cheque or if I will be paid the outstanding amount directly into my account now. I don't really want a cheque as I will lose a large percentage in bank fees. Is anyone else in the same situation or can offer any advice?

Many thanks.

I'm in the same boat as you Emily and no doubt there are a lot of other writers who are wondering when and how they will be paid. Now that the amount of EFT is once it's over £10 in whatever currency i'm wondering when the payment will go through. Maybe someone from Amazon can clarify on this.

Just about to query the same thing. I have been accruing US royalties since August 2012. An email dated 04 Nov 2012 mentioned a 'check' which I never received. I updated my bank details to fall in line with the new policy of direct payments but have received nothing so far.

Whoa! This is a bigger problem then I thought. I hesitated before I made the change but did it anyway to avoid the check fees. Amazon claims they sent the check, but I doubt it. So, what I suggest is to fire off an email to the account department to try and intercept the check and then do the transaction via EFT.
The new system much better, however Amazon still lags in making the payments.

Hi I sent a note to the accounting department. I requested they cancel a check for foreign royalties and they are willing to oblige.
The caveat being it will take additional time to transfer the money into the EFT account.
Just write them and explain the problem and make sure you have the EFT account set up properly.

If anyone manages to speak to someone who knows what's happening via 'contact us' would you please post. This is the response I received.

"Changes to your payment details will only have an effect on royalties collected after making the change. Unfortunately, it isn't possible to change the payment details for royalties accrued prior to any modifications to your payment details.

Those outstanding payments will be paid according to the currency and payment method present on your account at the time the royalties were accrued.

I'm very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause."

Fine, that seems perfectly clear, however I also received another email saying this.

"The following payment is related to digital royalties for Amazon.co.uk. It will be paid by bank transfer directly into your bank account. Please allow up to five business days following the payment date for the funds to appear in the available balance of your bank account."

The given date for transfer was 28 Feb (plus the 5 business days). So now I'm unsure as to which part of my anatomy I'm on, one of them being my elbow.

Hi there
The codes and numbers you need to set up EFT are on the top right hand corner of paper bank statements.
Hope this helps

This appears to be an old thread, but if some of you are still wondering:

If you switch to EFT, the wait-60-days cycle starts over at that point. However, after that, as long as you make 10 pounds a month, you'll be paid every month. Accumulated money from before you switched will eventually make its way to you as a check, though you can try asking to have it sent to you as EFT.

If you were supposed to get a check a while ago and never did, definitely contact Amazon directly. They don't read this author forum (except when posts get modded!).
