Hi there, I am a newbie to the kindle publishing world and I am almost ready to publish but I have a blip. I am with Aweber now, I am wondering how I integrate my free kindle book link into my aweber opt in page? Also, once accomplished, can the kindle reader simply tap onto the link and it will automatically work? I am using microsoft word (newest version) and am using this put in a hyperlink but when I hover the link it says control and click to open working from my laptop. I thought a link would be more user friendly than this. Sorry if I sound dumb but I am starting this from scratch and battling on alone. Thank you so much for your time. From a very exhausted Sharon!

Can you be more specific concerning what you mean by 'free kindle book'?

Hi there, sorry to confuse. I have a book ready to launch on Kindle Amazon, I have a second book which will be a free download for them and also a way to build my subscriber list. I am needing to know how I will integrate my book link to my opt in link. I have never done any of this before so a huge learning curve. No worries if you can't help me as maybe Aweber can help. I thought I would ask you though as you first though, thank-you.

Hi Sharon, if I'm understanding this right, you're asking how to add the newsletter sign-up link to a page at the end of your book? You don't need to integrate the link to the free book that you're offering, only the newsletter sign-up link is necessary. Simply state something along the lines of "To hear about my latest releases and receive a free book, sign up to my newsletter (or "mailing list" if you prefer) here" and then add the url you received from Aweber.

A book that is free on Amazon would be available for anyone to download anyway, no newsletter sign-up required. What you need to do is upload your free book to a reputable file sharing service and then in your newsletter, provide the link to download your book.

If you've tested out that pressing control + clicking on the link in Word works okay, it should work fine in your ebook, but when you're publishing, you'll get an opportunity to download a mobi file to check the formatting. If you have a Kindle, send the mobi to your Kindle before you hit publish and confirm that the link works okay. Good luck!

Hi Fern, thank-you. I am confused haha! So, I already have an optin page set up, the chap from Aweber says to put in the url link where the thank-you page would be which would then lead them to my book (the free one inside the purchased book). I have asked him about this so he is helping me too. I will save your post and use it though. I see what you are saying, the free book for example is called "A Guide on how to Age-Proof Your Menopause" as the main book is on the Menopause so my subscribers would be interested in receiving information (newsletters) from me regarding these topics. I am clear on this. I will have a go and see what happens. Also, can you please tell e how to out in clickable links in my kindle book please as although I am working from my laptop when I hover over the link I have installed via microsoft word it says control and click to open. I wouldn't like to let my readers down by putting in links that they can't physically use via their kindle. Thank-you.

You're welcome :) I'm not sure I'm completely clear on what you mean when referring to the free Kindle book though. Is this book going to be available for free on Amazon? Because if it is, there's no incentive for people to sign up to your newsletter if they can get the freebie without it. Your book needs to be free only to your subscribers.

Now to the link. Copy and paste the url you received from Aweber into your Word doc and then highlight the url, right click and look for hyperlink. Click on hyperlink and this will bring up a box to insert the hyperlink. (I'm using Word 2007 so the layout may differ a little from yours but the basics are the same). Now select the box that says "Link to existing file or webpage." If the Aweber url doesn't appear in the box marked "Address" just copy and paste it in and hit OK. Your link will now be active.

Don't worry too much about the control+click stuff, that's just how it works in Word (probably to prevent accidental clicking on a url). If your book has been formatted correctly then the link should work once converted to ebook. Just make sure you download the mobi first before you hit publish. If you haven't already downloaded Kindle Previewer, do so asap as that is a must. I hope that made sense, but feel free to ask away if you need any help.

That is great Fern and you are a saviour! Sorry to confuse you, I am totally confused haha!! The writing I am brilliant at but the techy stuff I lose every time. So, the buyer sees my book on Amazon and (hopefuly) buys it. When she gets inside of the book she will see a link which when she clicks she will be able to download the free book. They say I must offer a freebie (the second book) to get my subscribers etc. At the moment the book is a word document so I think I will need a url link so that when they click on subscribe, the book then needs to be downloaded on their kindle. This is really exhausting me haha but I will sort it somehow. it is so time-consuming as I could have another two books written at this point. Thanks Fern.

It's okay, just go through each step slowly and you'll get there eventually :)

First of all, just forget all that stuff about downloading the free book for now. Your readers will NOT be downloading the free book via their Kindles (more on this in a moment).

The Aweber link in your Kindle book is for your newsletter sign-up only.

Go through the steps I outlined in my previous post on how to make the Aweber url an active link. Assuming your manuscript is formatted correctly, the link will be clickable when converted into an ebook.

Now to your free gift of an ebook: You may wish to provide the free book in various formats or just as a PDF, it's up to you. Once it's formatted correctly and you're happy with it, upload the free book to a reputable file sharing service, e.g. Dropbox. Whichever service you use, you'll be provided with a link to share/download the file (I don't use Aweber so I don't know if Aweber provides a downloading service of its own). This is the link that subscribers will click on in order to download the free book.

Now to your newsletter content. In your Aweber account you'll find templates to create your newsletter. Customise a template and write a personal "Welcome" message thanking the reader for purchasing your book and for subscribing to your newsletter, etc.

Now say something like, "As a thank you for subscribing, here is a link to download your free book, as promised."

THIS is where you now insert the link to share the file from Dropbox or wherever. You'll possibly be given an option to add a big "download" button or similar.

Save your newsletter, name it something like "Welcome newsletter" so you can easily identify it.

Just to be clear, your subscribers will be downloading the free book to PC and NOT Kindle. It's their responsibility to transfer the book to Kindle if they so wish.

I hope that made things a little clearer - best of luck!
