Me too! . My E book is over one week old . My first book ever ,Petrified waiting for sales . Goes through a price reduction next week ...BROKEN ONE by malcolm gray e BOOK AND PAPERBACK.
This looks a hard gig being an author ,But i will persevere.
Actually, if you have a question, it's better to start your own thread rather than being a parasite on someone else's.
As with the OP, there are reasons why your book is not selling.
Your cover -- have you written a book about blacksmithing? The weakest link? Your cover photo may have some significance to you or to the plot, but I couldn't get any genre from it.
Your blurb is poorly written and even more poorly punctuated. Telling us that your book is "a gripping page turner action novel" is presumptuous and arrogant. Telling one and all that you are a "newbie writer" is tantamount to confessing you have no idea what you're doing. The legal warning at the end of your blurb is simultaneously silly and offensive.
Your interior consists of massive block paragraphs (amateurish) and you seem to have no idea how to write or format dialogue. As with the OP, you also seem to think it's proper to plunge directly into the text immediately after the cover image. As I asked the OP, when have you ever seen a professionally published book made that way?
You are in competition with every other publisher selling on Amazon. With a limited amount of money available, choices will be made. Given the choice between yours and books that are professionally presented, properly formatted and well written, why choose yours? Back when e-books were new, you could post almost any old thing and make a few bucks -- that era is long gone.
I have no idea how Amazon Inc. can, or will, promote a book. I now have a de facto website. There
have been some sales of my books. Those must be only people who really enjoy what I create.
Other wise, most potential readers out there, among billions of us, may be willing to read my
stuff, but are too busy to do so. Is that an objective view?
There are actually seven books now on websites, with Images, etc. like any other. This depends on
google and Yahoo, etc. So you will have a "presence" as Something.
Hi Kevin. I believe that a lot of new authors think that Amazon automatically gives a lot of exposure to their books. The fact is, you must do some form of advertising. Look at all the promotions that publishers do for famous authors. They must do that with each book, and many of them require that the author take part in promotions as well. That's why they're on talk shows promoting their books, because it's an important part of generating sales.
There's very few products in the world that sell without advertising. Since we're not big name authors, we have to get the word out about our books. I use various forms of promotion... AMS sponsored ads through Amazon, and I've tried other methods such as Facebook ads. I also do self-promotion at trade shows and places within my community.
I've tried to locate your book but can't find it. Any chance of posting a link?
I know it's tempting and easy to do, but these days, due to the sheer number doing likewise, just putting a book up for sale isn't going to hack it unlss you do some promotional activity. Tune into the selfpublishing formula.com podcasts and you'll hear them say very much the same.
