Yay! I’m a 1%er! Ranked above the 120,000 threshold!
Now I gotta go out and get me one of them 1% jackets!
I have watched the number of ebooks on Zon grow from 1.2 mil to 1.9 mil over two years. That’s an increase of 700K ebooks on Zon. I thought it would be a lot more than that, considering all the books added that aren’t in English, and the other-language editions of books that were already published as ebooks. Really, the number of ebooks on Zon should have quadrupled in two years.
I know the number of titles I’ve published through KDP over the past two years has gone from just my one masterpiece that had sat in drawer for two decades to thirteen total titles because I wrote and published more stuff these past two years.
I have had a book on Amazon for some time. Right now it is ranked #805,000. I've seen it go as high as 130,000, 140,000. But the rankings are very volatile. And with the proliferation of the vanity book market, now anyone and their cat can put one on Amazon. But like they say, cream rises to the top. I've sold almost 1,000 copies. To put it in perspective for you, or to consider the competition as well as the general demise of the book industry, when I get to 1,000 sold, I'll be doing better than 90% of authors who publish. Bottom line, if you're looking to become famous or rich publishing, the ONLY way you can do it is through excessive marketing. The majority of the work these days comes AFTER publishing.
1) Go to http://www.amazon.com/b/?node=283155 and look at the left margin. At present the counts are:
Kindle Edition (2,580,787)
2) In the search box at the top of the Amazon screen you can put a minus sign or hyphen before a word to search for titles that do not contain that word. Search for -somenonsensethatisnotaword and it will show
1-12 of 54,746,215 results for Books : "-somenonsensethatisnotaword"
Note that "somenonsensethatisnotaword" is not special. Put any junk in there that's not likely to be a word in any language. The important part is the hyphen or minus sign in front of it.
While the left margin of this search result is similar to the one shown in the method #1 above it's missing the Format section meaning we don't know the hardcover/paperback/Kindle/etc. breakdown. One way to get the Kindle count is to search for -somenonsensethatisnotaword Kindle
The top of the result page shows
1-12 of 3,658,014 results for Books : Kindle Edition : "-somenonsensethatisnotaword Kindle"
The left margin now has a "Book Format" section but only with "Kindle Edition" as a sub-option.
It's not clear why method one above shows 2.6 million Kindle editions and method two shows 3.7 million Kindle editions.
I will report back to the forum in a week or so. Having six novels and an average of ten per day sold (not great but something) the last five days has been flat line. First time in two years!! Must have borrows because pages keep flipping......at this rate I'll sink to the bottom fairly quickly......eee gads.
Linn, you're missing the boat if you don't have it in e-book format as well. If it sells at all, it will sell far better as an ebook than as a paperback. I have mine in ebook, paperback and audiobook; right now the audiobooks are hot because that's my newest release but my ebooks far outsold the paperbacks and audiobooks combined.
