Table of Contents missing in ebook format

When I converted my paperback to an e-book, I made the necessary changes for it, including creating a table of contents, which was perfect.
Got a copy of my book on my Kindle, and everything looked fine. I take a look at my book on my Kindle today, and the whole table of contents is missing...???
Does this happen a lot? If so, how to avoid it? And - should I take my book down from Amazon, make sure the table of contents is still there (or re-do it) and re-upload my book?

This is very distressing, as two people that I know have recently purchased the book!

Redo your manuscript to fix the problem. Then upload it OVER what is there now.
No that does not happen often. It depends on the person doing the book.

The TOC simply cannot vanish, or rather I should say: the TOC cannot simply vanish! How you fix it depends on how you built the ebook (they don't just magically appear out of a Word doc). Personally, I run a Word doc through Word2CleanHtml dot com online, open the resulting html file in Sigil, and tweak it there as needed. Takes some learning, but easiest in the long term. You can get the latest version at https://github.com/Sigil-Ebook/Sigil/releases

(And Sigil has a splendid TOC tool.)

Thanks. I just may have to do that. Still...strange, as I had the actual TOC up in my book on my Kindle.

Ha! That's what I said...'The TOC cannot just disappear!' Looks like I'll have to re-do it. Kinda' sucks.

So; I contacted Amazon and was told that it was indeed a Kindle issue! I deleted the book from my reader as instructed, and the guy at Amazon re-uploaded it, with the TOC intact!
I knew that I wasn't crazy or stupid! lol

There do seem to be a few bumps on the KDP road this month. I'm sorry you hit one of them, but glad you got it sorted.
