Hi,

I was looking to add my book on KDP and I saw the Romanian language is not on the list. Why is that?
How can I publish it then?

Thanks.

You can only publish books in languages supported by KDP.

Not on the list? Can't publish it.

Like everyone else publishing in unsupported languages, you can save and upload as HTML. Romanian simply uses lots of diacritical marks, which are all in Unicode and should be displayed fine by kindles. Results, however may vary. You may or may not skate past the gatekeeper bots. Your bigger problem will be marketing.

Very few languages that are not Western European are supported by the KDP. The exceptions include Japanese and more recent five Indian languages in beta.

While you may be able to publish the book, provided you call it something other than Romanian, chances are it will be taken down by Amazon. The problem is not whether the language can be handled -- very possibly Big Five publishers are able to do ebooks in Romanian -- but that Amazon has no means of checking the content for copyright or other violations of the terms of service.

As to when it will be available -- probably not for a very long time. Surely Russian would be far ahead of Romanian. Even Poland is twice the population. And Turkey! Don't forget that Amazon is running a business. If there is no Amazon store in your country, you are not high on the list.

(Don't trust KDP to publish a print edition. Don't trust CreateSpace to publish an ebook.)

Good luck! -- NJ
