Will Amazon let us know how many buyers read the book? How long it takes? How far they get before giving up, etc?

Now, there's a thought! If we only knew that, we'd know when to end our books.

(Don't trust KDP to publish a print edition. Don't trust CreateSpace to publish an ebook. Each does one thing well and the other thing poorly.)

Good luck! -- NJ

That's a shame. Surely they have that data and it would be in everyone's interest - Amazon, writers, readers - to let it be shared, so long as it is anonymous.

I'm sure they know the colour of socks readers are wearing but they would be very reluctant to share this information. For example, what Google Analytics knows about your web habits is very spooky but most people have no idea of just what information is being gathered so aren't really worried about it. But if readers thought their reading habits were being recorded and then redistributed I think it could generate a significant backlash.

This isn't to say the information wouldn't be useful to authors. If you knew everyone falls asleep at page 73 then this would point you where to look but at the moment you really only have raw sales figures as your guide.

Or of course get direct feedback from readers through your web page or stuff like FB etc. I've even met a few of my readers. :)

It's hardly in Amazon's interest to share proprietary information with anyone.
