This makes a lot of sense.
I've been browsing the forums for the last few months, not sure where or how to comment on anything (still feel like a newbie)

On the 14th of November, I published my book. I had my cover designed, book edited, a few early reviews.. The norm, in preparation for my launch.
I then spent quite a bit on my 0.99cent promo plan. None of the promos kicked off at all.
Of the 12 promos I set up, I was most excited to see the results from Robin Reads and ENT.
Robin reads was my biggest "win" with 32 downloads that day. On the day of my ENT promo, I had a whopping 18 downloads. Overall... I was not quite the launch I dreamed about lol
Naturally, after having read all the posts on Kboard, I attributed this to the fact that sales are low in holiday season, my cover is less than desirable or my book just sucks.

A few things I noticed as well was that I had a ton of "free downloads"... No idea how or where those came from because was not free during this period.
Something else I noticed was that my month to date sales were far greater than the sales displayed on the graph. (It's usually the other way around - the sale is displayed on the graph and once amazon has successfully collected the funds, then only are they displayed in my month to date sales)

Would be nice if whatever is going on would be resolved soon.

I'm having issues also. I noticed some of sales have a difference of 15 or more days and these are US sales. Just released OCT 31st, and have numerous people show me the sales they bought only to not have it match my ranking or my sales report.

My reports also flatlined the past few days, and I took some solace in the "issues" and "delayed" messages that came up on the page at the same time.

But it's disconcerting when, meanwhile, the AMS impressions, clicks, and spends continue to mount!

Having the same "issues." No one can say what's being done about the glitch and when things will return to normal. Disappointed to say the least.

Yes, I have the message on mine too. Sales bombed about 10 days ago, KENP reads to zero about a week since. They were going along nicely for a while there but nothing now.

Everyone here seems to have the same problem. KDP is not providing answers or defining what these "issues" are. Anybody here know what those issues are all about? We're they hacked?

A number of years ago a similar event occurred. What happened is that during that period I'd because of lack of reporting ranking for my books fell across the board. When problem corrected ranking still stayed low and resumed sales were lackluster because of that.

Of course if one had a novel that was selling like hotcakes before your ranking would rebound but not so with authors with slow but steady sales.

Very odd situation. Not john probably remembers the time I refer to.

I'm brand new to this community and just published my first title. How long has that banner been showing? Sitting at zero data even though I know there have been sales is disappointing.

The banner has been showing for a few days. I think they are doing upgrades to the system.

I would have thought that even Amazon would have issued some kind of warning message before starting an upgrading that is being very disturbing. What is happening looks more like a big and unforeseen problem than a site upgrading to me.

Here's the response I received from Amazon Customer Service:

I'm following up on your recent inquiry about the banner in your sales dashboard.

As promised, I've raised your concern about the banner "KDP reports are experiencing issues and your sales or royalties may be delayed" in your KDP reports to our Reports specialist and they informed that we display the banner in all the publisher's reports because, the information in your KDP reports may take longer than usual to update.

I'd like to inform that our reports are actively receiving the orders of your book.

    • Please be aware that your orders show up in your Sales and Royalties report as soon as customers buy your book. Orders become sales after we process customer payments which usually takes about a day. If a customer's credit card is delayed or declined, it may take longer for their order to become a sale. In this case, your book doesn't have any additional sale.

The delay is only with the orders converting into sales. Our technical team is aware of this problem and is working hard to fix it as soon as possible. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.

Errors like this are usually corrected shortly after they're reported. Please do not worry that your payments are not affected by this delay.

Thanks for your patience while we fix this problem.

I must be blind. Is this the same as the dashboard? I get zero data regardless of where I look so far.

Just an update. I had a response when I asked about some 'free' downloads on a title this week that was NOT on free promotion, and got this reply:

Thank you for contacting Kindle Direct Publishing.

I'm sorry for the trouble you had with regards to this issue. Please be informed that currently we're experiencing a technical problem with our reports showing sales as "Free - Goodreads Giveaway." This is a known issue affecting hundreds of publishers right now.

Don't worry though! Our technical team is aware of this problem and is working hard to fix it as soon as possible. Errors like this are usually corrected shortly after they're reported.

Thanks for your understanding and patience while we fix this problem.


Not sure if this response helps anyone. But thought it might reassure people who are worrying. It's a wait-and-see situation --- as usual!!

(I wonder if Amazon have tried switching it off and then on again.)

I've found the comments on this thread very helpful; they've put my mind at ease.

Here's the latest response I received from Amazon's customer service:

Thank you for your understanding.

Our technical team is working hard to fix it as soon as possible. The issue should be fixed within 2-3 days.

I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.
