I’ve read in a few other threads and Q/A that if you use your Amazon account for your Amazon KDP account, you can’t track the sales you make. Is this true or am I misreading something?
Because I’ve bought a copy of my book (this is my first novel I’ve ever published) and I bought another copy for a friend who paid me back. Another friend has bought a copy and showed me her confirmed order. None of these sales are showing up in the Reports tab and so far, my bank account hasn’t been charged like it normally would be. (Unless there’s a different process with KDP books for Amazon prime.)
I’ve had my Amazon account that I make purchases from for 2 or more years now.
My KDP account just published my first novel and made it available as of today.
I just want to be sure I do this right so as I keep writing and putting books out, I can make sure I’m getting it all right and doing it right.
Do you know if changing details, like the description of the book on the Amazon page, changes the estimated delivery date? And how long it would take to be charged for the book itself? My account hasn’t been charged yet which I find odd as most Prime purchases are deducted 1-2 hours after submitting.
Your mention of "shipped" makes me assume you mean a paperback. (Sorry, but the word "book" now has two meanings.)
Did you publish through KDP-print or CreateSpace? If CS, then sales will never show up on your KDP dashboard. Go to CS, and you'll see them there. This is true even though you buy from Amazon. (if you buy author-copies from CS, they are sold to you at cost and thus don't appear as sales, since they earn you zero.)
KDP-print sales appear fairly quickly (less than a day) on the graph as "orders" but not on the month-to-date report as "sales" until the book has been printed and shipped. (And sometimes after it has arrived...)
If you drop your KDP-print price to the absolute minimum, you will see nothing on Reports, because you are earning no royalties. (That's what absolute minimum means.)
Hope this helps! To answer your original question, using your long-standing Amazon account has no effect on being able to see your sales.
