Personal Update on Delayed Reports from KDP

Hello Everyone, I will make this short and sweet. I am a new author making my debut, and had a decent pre-launch and not so decent lauch for my E-Book and two weeks later my paperback. Concerning KDP and my Ebook...The KDP reports updated on the hour it seemed right after November but then I noticed a few odd things. I sold an initial 12 Ebooks the first 5 days...discouraging..but I planned to do a 5 day free E-Book promotion. I moved around 180 free books from Dec 1-5, and after that only sold 2 Ebooks from Dec 6 until now (Dec 15th). I emailed KDP on Dec 11 (knowing from this forum that there were issues) but I wanted to perform my due diligence and report my difficulties...and jump on the pile (It is very much warranted at this point). KDP sent me a letter today stating they had reporting issues that they were working on...apology...but then..

They reported that they had confirmed with their IT Dept that from Dec 3-Dec 15th I have accumulated 77 E-Book Sales! This may not be a big number for the veterans here, but for me it was very encouraging, as it brings my total E-Book Sales near 90! So, I hope this is good news for everyone caught in limbo due to lack of detailed information. I am a debut author in Historical Fiction and I just sold 90 Ebooks in 3 weeks, put another 180 free EBooks out in the market for reviews and exposure and my KDP Unlimited pages read are a few thousand (whats being actually reported).

Your results are probably better! Faint not! Hold the Line!! Best Wishes to All! Happy Holidays!

The notice on the Reports page about the delay is gone and my Reports are showing through Dec. 14 now.

i also just published my first historical fiction novel about three weeks ago and had problems in my reports like most others around here. Today the error looked to be fixed but all of my graphs and such still show me zeros. I watched friends buy my book right in front of me and still nothing. I do not expect to sell a thousand copies in my first month but i know i have sold a few already. I really hope they are not ripping us off, we endlessly pour our hearts and souls into these pages day in and day out until finally we have perfection. I want to publish my current work on kdp when it is finished in a few months, but if things keep going they way they are now i don't know if i will stay. I was so proud to be able to publish my work with the help of amazon and each day that pride slowly transforms into disgust as i cannot seem to track anything in my reports.

I'm sure this is very frustrating. There are a couple possibilities.

Is this an ebook or a print book? If it's an ebook, you should see a blip on the graph within an hour or two of when someone downloads a book, and a sale registered on the month-to-date Report within a couple days, when the credit card charge goes through. If this isn't happening, you should get a copy of the buyers' electronic receipts and ask Amazon about it, using the Contact link at lower right. The bots may just not have caught up yet.

Unless you published through third-party publisher like BookBaby or Lulu? In that case, you will never see anything on Reports, because they (as the publisher) get all the reports, not you.

Or is it a print book? KDP-print books show up on the graph only after they are printed and shipped, which can take a few days. CreateSpace paperbacks never show up on the KDP dashboard. Go to CreateSpace and view them there. (Same comment about Ingram Spark.)

If you buy CreateSpace books as author copies, or drop the KDP-print price to absolute minimum to buy a few copies, you will never see those sales, because you earned zero royalty on them.

PS
If you're in Select, your friends may have "borrowed" your book rather than bought it. That doesn't show on the graph, though it does improve your rank.

You only know about borrowed books when (and if) they start to read, when you'll see pages-read.

Only an E-Book but your E-book can easily bank you more profit than your paperback will. Your E-Book is a big deal friend! Never forget that ;)

finally my reports are taken care of, and the missing sales in question I have since learned were never sales at all. The family members who told me they were purchasing the e-book were only checking everything out and not actually purchasing it. Oh well, what do you expect from family ha ha ha.

Last update Jan 4th 2018. KDP got back to me for the final time after researching my reports and their email regarding 77 sales from Dec 3 to Dec 15th 2017. Evidently the information that was given listing those sales was an error (so I was informed) Those 77 were reduced to 6 sales. I gave up on the inquiry, what else can be said. Also since my analytics were called third party, they don't factor in. Sales ranking jumping 500k positions without any sales was never addressed...so I will just lick my wounds and soldier on in silence. Good Luck everyone!
