You know, I mean no disrespect, but it's not remotely hard. Assuming you're talking about an eBook, at the top of this page, you'll see the BOOKSHELF. You'll click there. Assuming that you've set up a publisher's account, you can add your ebook to the Bookshelf by starting a new ebook title. If your publisher's account is not set up (it must be, I think, given that you've somehow set up an Advantage or whatever account), you can start that process at the login page.

Go through the steps--they are fairly self-explanatory--and list the eBook. If the steps confuse you, there's a wonderful FAQ/step-by-step process set out at the main help page, here. Scroll up and click "Amazon KDP Support" in the breadcrumb links, below the "Kindle | Direct Publishing" icon, okay?

I hope that helps. I have NO idea how you got so turned around--someone, somewhere, really, really mislead you--but good luck on publishing your Kindle book. The ONLY fees associated with that are delivery fees, and those are $0.15/megabyte, collected from the sale of each book. There are NO monthly fees, etc. Given what's happened with you, I'd stay out of any advertising programs, etc., until you have a few normal months of time with your book on sale at Amazon.

Hi Hitch, brilliant instructions! Thank you very much for taking the time to send this through. I think I'm a bit sceptical since I got so turned around, and was charged so much, so I just needed my hand to be held! Thank you again.

Thanks for posting your emails from Amazon.

The situation is exactly as I thought.

You were signed up to a Market Place Pro selling account.

Such an account is for selling your own new or used goods: eg: DVDs, books , electronics, toys, etc. It's rather like eBay.

For my day job I sell on Amazon UK Market Place. The standard account does not charge an annual or monthly fee, but the Pro account is about £35 per month. It's a very common mistake for folk to sign up to the Pro account.

However none of the above has anything to do with KDP.

Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) is a self-publishing platform and does not charge an annual/monthly fee.

The fact that you are posting on this (KDP) forum means you are in the right place for self-publishing. You should see a "Bookshelf" a tab at the top of this page, that is where you will see your self-published books and where you upload new titles. The "Reports" tab shows your earnings.

It's possible that you are not fully signed up with an active account, or closing your Market Place account may have shut your KDP account, but it should be easy to activate your KDP account again. If you have difficulty, come back to this forum.

If you wish to sell goods (NOT SELF-PUBLISHED KDP BOOKS) you will need to apply for a NON PROFESSIONAL Market Place selling account. What can add to the confusion is that the Market Place accounts are usually referred to as just "selling accounts", but just to repeat myself one more time: KDP (self-publishing) is a seperate platform.

Hitch,

Reading the email OP received from Amazon, it's clear she was signed up to a Pro Market Place selling account.

I can see how this might have come about. If you said said to someone "I want to sell books on Amazon", the reply would be: "You need to open a selling account."

Hi Gary, you’ve been so helpful in providing me with all of this information. I can better understand where I went wrong. Yes, I was told to open a seller’s account and I followed what I thought were logical steps. I had decided to give up on selling with Amazon but now I think I’ll give it another try. I sincerely appreciate you taking time to walk me through all of this. Barbara

Hi Lyn, I have one more question you may be able to help me with. I see New Zealand does not qualify for Electronic Funds transfer and there is a Wire fee and Cheque fee for royalties to be paid into your account. Is this what you have found? Any suggestions?? Thank you.
