@kdpadmin

I'm wondering what steps I can take to be one of the lucky few to be able to order author copies at print cost?

You said a few months ago that you would be making it possible for us "over the next few weeks." That time has passed, unless you hold an extremely liberal view of "few weeks."

I acknowledge that I market my own books that are published using kdp. Part of that self promotion is doing book signings at local bookstores--stores that have agreed to let me do so. However, I don't have the funding it would take to even order a hundred copies at the bare minimum retail, even if I would make it back in sales at said book signings. Are you trying to push business away here? Why would you tease your authors about this feature, but then make it unavailable to 90% of them?

I would much appreciate an admin's response to this question:

What steps do I take to be able to use the author copies order function? It's unavailable to me now, as well as MANY other kdp authors. What do I do?

This is a forum for authors. No one from 'the Zon' is here.
You can lower your price, then order, followed by raising your price again.
Had you published thru CreateSpace as most of us do, you could order at a discount.

So no one from 'the Zon' graces these forums? I would have chosen createspace, but Amazon released multiple announcements saying the author copy order function was live.

Lowering my price to the lowest possible is still more expensive than I can afford for mass orders right now. 400$ for 45 copies doesn't scream "good business."

I suppose I could republish on createspace, but would Amazon accept that now?

I posted here because Amazon doesn't seem to answer emails to support for kdp...

Use the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page, not email. :)

I assume you can ask the Zon to move your books back to CreateSpace but I have no idea whom to contact.
Try a message at both CS and the Kindle site (contact us below).

You can unpublish the KDP Print version and start new on CreateSpace or IngramSpark. You can't however get rid of the KDP Print version. It will always be there, like a family ghost, pointing its bony finger at you.

(Don't trust KDP to publish a print edition. Don't trust CreateSpace to publish an ebook. Each does one thing well and the other thing poorly.)

Good luck! -- NJ
