Hi

Does any author/publisher know how to make an e-book playable on Alexa/Echo?

Thanks

I doubt that you can. Some Kindles will read aloud to you, however.

When you create the audio version and make it available through Amazon Kindle, it will tie to your account and you can play the audio through Alexa. At least that is what happened with a free audio book I received worked. My wife said, "Alexa, read me a story," and Alexa starting reading the audio book for The Never Hero, which is about the only audiobook we own through Amazon.

Was it a pleasant story?

And is there a difference between Alexa and Echo, or does Alexa live inside the Echo?

(Don't trust KDP to publish a print edition. Don't trust CreateSpace to publish an ebook. Each does one thing well and the other thing poorly.)

Alexa is the AI. Echo is one of the devices used to access Alexa.

Was this Alexa re-reading the book for which you had the audio version already? Or was it (as I would guess) the audio book coming through the Echo? My guess is that Alexa may not be up to reading something which exists only as an ebook, which I think was the OP's question.

We bought an echo for Christmas, but it is located upstairs. We were giving commands to Alexa when it happened and we already owned the audio book. Alexa just played the audio book as it was recorded (a man's voice, not Alexa's).

I didn't care for the voice and blandness of the person who recorded audio version, if that is your question. It just wasn't one of those voices that adds life to audio.

For Info: Alexa App has a menu item "Music, Video, Books". Select Kindle books, not Audible books. A list of your purchases appears. Select one for Alexa to read in its standard voice.

I think I found the answer to my question. I believe that the mobi files not listed as playable were ones I'd loaded into my Kindle locally, rather than books purchased from Amazon.

So it appears that ALL purchased books are playable over Alexa, after all.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my question.
