on the page where you change the prices of your ebooks .... it's not on the 35% ($2.98 or less) books ... but on the ones where you have 70% selected, you'll see the royalty rates for 35%, 50% and 70% .... I don't understand?

I just went into one ebook I have on and that option is not showing. It must be something new, I assume not yet announced by the Zon. Hopefully, someone will know and post.

It may be a beta thing that they have on a few account. I checked and nothing is mentioned.

I did a search on the help pages and found no mention of it. I sent a link but that reply was modded.

Interesting. I'll check my account later today, but as a WAG -- what if it could be a new rate without deduction for the download fee?

More ominously, what if it is a feeler to get us accustomed to a lower royalty? I have been anticipating that move ever since Kindle Select came to live with us. Perhaps Jeff figures enough lemmings have gone over the Select cliff that he can now cut back from 70 percent.

(Don't trust KDP to publish a print edition. Don't trust CreateSpace to publish an ebook. Each does one thing well and the other thing poorly.)

Good luck! -- NJ

I don't see why he would put that 50% there for all to see. Something else may be cooking.

Well, it will be a generous gesture to those who upload huge files. Instead of being forced into the 35 percent royalty, they can get 50 percent!

Then, in a year or two, by popular demand, Amazon will replace the old, unloved, complicated 70 percent discount with this new, popular, streamlined 50 percenter, in an effort to best serve our beloved authors.

List your books on the Apple store, people! It was Apple that introduced the 70 percent "agency" model, and Apple will never let it go, just to irritate Jeff Bezos. And Apple sells books in countries Amazon does not reach.

On Reddit someone is suggesting they're going to drop to 50% royalty for those going wide... That would put the cat among the vultures!

Someone posted a link to Mark Coker's article the other day. He outlined his predictions for 2018 and beyond, and included royalties potentially going down to 50% at Amazon. I've been wondering if that would happen across the board, 50% royalties on all books, no matter the price.

Lattimore - That would make sense though I wonder why they gave her the three options without explaining. I don't see them dropping the 70% to 50% without giving us something. What that might be I don't know. All i know is that they want everything to be on the Zon platform, understandably, and I don't think dropping the royalty rate will help with that. Zon isn't interested in the fast nickle but the slow dime.
Of course corner the market, raise the price, or in this case drop the royalty rate.

All my books are sold elsewhere, and I don't see the 50% option, so it must be appearing on random or select dashboards.

It's being rolled out slowly, like all the other massive changes (remember the KDP Print "author copies"?). Lots of speculation over at kboards and other fora, as usual, but I doubt that it will be a good change for authors.

So you think it is for those longer books that charge under $2.99?
Thanks.
