Hello Everyone!
I am Dr.Anshul Saxena from India. I started publishing my E-books and print versions on KDP around 6-7 months back. Initially I got very good response as my books were being read. Everything went so smoothly with KDP But suddenly from December. 2017 I observed no response for my books. I mean not a single reader has read my books since Dec.2017. Even though I enrolled my books in KDP select and count down deal but nothing worked.
My question is "is it possible that suddenly you get zero response? Can any one tell me what is going wrong? Is it happening with others also?
Please reply.

Yes, it can certainly happen that a book stops being read. Every book has a shelf life. The newer the book, the more chance it has of being read. Successful authors (see my thread on this topic on this forum) generate interest in their older books by publishing new ones. Good luck!

I saw this happen with mine as well. I think there was an update in the algorithms where it was aimed at culling some of the scammers out there. I published new stories to save my rapidly plunging rank, but it's been a hard save.

I would suggest publishing new material, so that you appear to others again, and they can find your work. Publishing new books seems to be the only thing that ever works.

It happened with my new book also which I published in the month of December 2017. I did not get any response for that too. In fact I have published another book today. I will see the response. I am really confused and trying to know the reason.

After looking at your books, the lack of interest isn't that much of a mystery. You're writing in what's been often called by others an "indie dead zone." In fact, you're writing in two of them -- self-help books written by a non-expert and kids books.

Your self-help books show the reader no more than can be discovered on Wikipedia. In fact, in one book you actually feature the Wikipedia logo prominently. There's absolutely nothing in your books to convince anyone they should trust you -- no experience, no degrees, no name recognition. You don't even have a bio on your author's page. Your Look Inside, which should be your biggest selling tool, doesn't show customers anything they can't find for free on the internet or in books written by experts. Your formatting also needs work.

Your kiddie books are fixed format, meaning they cannot be read on many devices, and are next to impossible to read on others, especially those with smaller screens. As to the content, I don't think it appeals to parents.

Lastly, your books aren't really books. At two or three dollars, readers expect more than fifteen or twenty pages. Your one-star review specifically mentions the lack of length as well as the disappointing content. If what you're doing is not working, then doing the same thing over and over might achieve nothing but dig the hole deeper. It may be time for you to step back and reevaluate.

Mr Ralph thanks for replying but I am sorry I am not at all convinced with your point of view. It seems you have gained a lot experience may be I don't have experience as you said but experience comes gradually.
Perhaps you didn't read my post below my question. I have clearly written I got very good response till November 2017. Self help books with logo as you said "not at all convincing" had the maximum response.

None of my book has 15 pages with two or three dollors cost. Thanks for going in detail but instead of being judgemental on the basis of one review it would have been better if you had checked my book detail for the number of pages and cost.

If books had not been really books they had not been on amazon.
I am continuously reevaluating myself. I am very much satisfied with my content.

I know something is wrong. I am still trying to find out the truth behind "no response".

Ok, you shared on social media. How many followers do you have? Did you try advertising your book with various promotion sites? Did you set up Facebook ads or AMS ads or get involved with generating subscribers and swapping your book with others in your newsletters? Your book isn't going to sell by just flipping a switch to make it free or add it to the Select program. You have to do work to get it in front of eyeballs. Browse this forum and kboards.com writers' cafe forum for advertising and marketing to get some ideas.

Thanks to reply.I will surely try to follow your advice. I completely agree that promoting and marketing increases number of readers.
I wanted to know if sales board had response without placing ads and other marketing techniques then what happened now?

New releases can be seen on the new release list but once they are no longer new, they drop off and you are buried.

Okay, I am going to be blunt.

First - How do you expect to sell a book that is claiming to aid those learning English when the book isn't in proper English? Even the blurb is messed up.

Second - What is your doctorate in? What are your credentials? What background do you have that qualifies you to write not one but two books about autism? What medical statistics do you have to back up your claims? This should all be listed in your blurb for this book. I have family members with autism and a husband who falls along the line of high functioning aspergers (neuroatypical) and I have gotten all the info I needed from sources online for free, from reliable sources. Autism is a wide spectrum that can not be classified under one singular diagnosis so I can't see how you could even begin to scratch the surface with how few pages these books have. Also, those who have family members who fall along the spectrum will only look for info from a qualified source.

Third - Page lengths - Autism Awareness - 13 pages, Good Habits - 20 pages, How to Speak in English - 10 pages, A Day with Mary - 24 pages, Self-Improvement - 27 pages, Autism - 52 pages, 7 Days and Mary's Activities - 14 pages. These are pretty short to even be considered books and your prices may be a part of the problem.

Fourth - Your formatting needs work. Lose the "Disclaimer" and put in a proper copyright page. Instead of your acknowledgement page put in your credentials on the subject, anyone can write about something but readers want info from professionals. Pick up a couple books similar to yours and take a look at how they are put together and go from there. I suggest hiring an editor or someone who can clean these up.

Fifth - Set up your author page. You call yourself a Dr but nowhere does it say what your credentials are or what you are a doctor of, this leaves people wondering if you even are one. Where did you go to school? How many years have you been a Dr? What are you a Dr of? These and more are the types of questions you should be answering.

Sixth - You need to look at what your reviewer has said and use it to improve. Your 1star review was done by a verified purchaser whereas your 5star review was not and instead looks like a fake review (especially seeing how that is the only review that account has made). People looking can spot these things.

Lastly - Your sales will always be better during your first month or two of being published because you are easier to find under new books. As the months go on you drop further and further down the list, being succeeded by books with actual creditable sources. You soon become lost in the list only to be found by those searching for you specifically.

You are absolutely right. You are really being very blunt.

Did you read my book before drawing a conclusion that it is not in proper English? You just wrote your comment.

Did you read my book on Autism before telling me that autism is a wide spectrum? I know it very well. I experience Autism around me everyday...without having any experience I would have not been able to write about it. It's entirely readers' choice to collect the information for free or buying a book. You might have heard "you cannot judge a book by its cover page." Right?

I believe in quality not in quantity.
If pages are less, prices are the lowest possible.
I don't think I need to prove my hard earned degree to anyone.
Anyway this answer is not at all up to the mark. These reasons (for no sale from December 2017) given by you are not satisfactory. If these had been the actual reasons, my books had not been sold till November 2017.

If you are not going to accept honest answers, why bother to ask the question? Samantha has taken her time to give you a detailed explanation and you immediately go on the defensive. For example, you claim you have a 'hard-earned' degree but won't even say what subject it is in, leading readers to think it has nothing to do with the topics you're writing about. As for your written English, I counted at least four instances of poor or incorrect usage in the first two paragraphs of the Introduction alone.

>> I don't think I need to prove my hard earned degree to anyone.

Then dont expect anyone to care that you have one... why not use it as a positive tool with which to attract readers?
