I am considering switching to KDP Print from Createspace, now that author (wholesale) copies are an option. I compared the printing cost of the book, and they are roughly the same. KDP Print is 5 cents cheaper. However, there is no information about the shipping rates. Is it cheaper or more expensive? How about to Canada? Is this information available anywhere?
I tried to call KDP but they are closed because it's the weekend. I would appreciate some help. Thanks!
The shipping to Canada would be the same for KDP-print and CS, because in both cases the books are printed in the US, probably on the same machines.
For European authors, however, KDP-print might make sense for author copies, because those are now printed in Europe, not the US.
One important note: CS books are available in Canada (though perhaps not immediately), whereas KDP-print books still are not. KDP-print books also cannot be ordered by regular bookstores, whereas CS paperbacks can be, if you choose extended distribution (a wise choice).
For print, you may want to consider having both Createspace and Ingram Spark, since Createspace expanded distribution is expensive and not too attractive to booksellers. Ingram Spark is better especially for non-US sales. Createspace is better (more money to you) for print books sold by Amazon. Of course, the whole question is moot if you're selling mostly Kindle and very few print, with no sales to bookstores/libraries.
