I may have made a mistake. I intent to release my book tomorrow and also wish to run a free promotion to coincide with the launch. Apparently I need to scheudle that a day in advance, but can't do that because I can't run the promotion until the book is available for sale. I really want to publish the book today so I can schedule the promotion tomorrow because I scheduled the promottion to begin tomorrow with many free promotion sites. Can someone help me?
Is your book ready to go? Can't you just hit Publish? It can take 12 hours or so.
If you set up for a pre-order, publishing ahead of time will make you ineligible for a pre-order for a year. It's also not fair to run a pre-order and then make the book free, because the pre-order folks will pay full price.
Giving away a book for free right out of the gate, if it's your only book, is a very bad idea, because it does nothing to generate sales. Sorry.
The book is ready to go, but I mistakenly made the release date the day I intended to run the free promotion unaware it usually takes a day to schedule the free promo. Since the book is in pre-order it won't let me schedule the promotion until the book is already available for sale.

Yo, this is my first time. Anyone can make a mistake. Plus it's not like anyone bought it while it was in pre order. Can anyone actually answer my question?
You have to wait until your book is published before scheduling one or more free days, and there may be a further delay in setting a date because it can take 24-48 hours to take effect. When you set up your freebie, you'll be shown a calendar with the nearest possible date indicated. All this is explained in detail on the Select help pages.
The usual purpose of scheduling a pre-order is to announce the publication on your mailing list and for marketing in general. If you were not able to get even one pre-order with your marketing campaign, you might want to evaluate both the need for a pre-order and the effectiveness of your marketing strategy. Good luck.
