Sales Not Being Credited to My Account

For almost a month I have been telling amazon.com/kindle that I am not being credited for my book sales, and it has been hard to prove. Finally, I downloaded the PC version of a kindle reader, created a new account, and bought the book. It did not show up on my dashboard as a sale - the numbers have remained the same. I have written so many e-mails about this, I don't know where to go anymore. There is no phone call I can make. I keep getting e-mails assuring my sales are being credited to my account. They are not, and this last purchase proves it.

Does anyone else believe they have sales that are not being credited to their account? This is an incredibly serious issue.

yes, but I expect it is just a delay

eg a lot of people have thanked me for my new book
Bible on wordtokindle
and even mentioned parts not in the sample so they must have bought it, but only one recorded sale on bookshelf

maybe being in Oz could be a factor in my case

I Agree. I'll be watching this post. Lacking a favorable resolution, I certainly will not be selling through Amazon!

Sally -

I wonder how long it's been since you bought your book. I've run the same test when I thought sales were slow and Amazon has passed each time. However, it can take a while for sales to post - from a couple of hours to several hours.

I know what you're talking about. When I check out my reports, it says I've only sold 1 copy of The Sapphire Desire, even though there are people I know who have bought a copy. The number of copies sold should be higher than 1 for me, but for one reason or another, isn't. Maybe it is a delay in reporting, I don't know 100%. Hopefully we'll get some answers soon.

Is it possible that new sales are being concealed by returns happening around the same time?

I don't think so. There is a statistic in the reports that tells how many units were refunded as well. Even if there were units refunded, it would still tell the statistic on how many copies were sold. My best guess is that the updates to the sales reports are being delayed.

utube came honest this week and had a big notice up top to say there was a glitch but numbers were NOT lost, simply delayed, but of course those numbers don't PAY you anything.

my top video is coming up for 500,000 hits in a day or 2 so it will be a milestone for me, even if not one cent

The delay in posting can be as little as three hours. I had sales showing this morning at 0600 New York time, which would be 0300 Seattle time.

I can't say I've noticed a problem with sales not registering until today, a new book has just gone live and I know I've sold something because I'm in the sales ranking on the US site, but it's not appeared in my reports yet. I assume this is because the book was only published 12 hours ago and it's taking a while for the stats to come through. I'm not worried.

If you are worried, however, there are ways of checking your sales. Monitor your seller ranking, either manually or via www.novelrank.com (it won't backdate its stats but starts monitoring from when you sign up). By looking where you're rated overall you should be able to tell when you last sold a book, e.g. on Amazon.com if you're on about 30,000 you've sold one book that day, 80,000 is a day without selling etc. Novelrank will also record sales, although they're not 100% accurate so don't rely completely on it!

None of thisis satisfactory. This is the computer age. Delays do not compute.

de lenzer - I said in a previous post on another thread about the same subject . Amazon is running a Model T Ford system in the age of the Bugatti Veyron.

There is, as I keep saying ad nauseum, no reason at all why our SALES (as opposed to our payments, which some people here keep getting confused about between the two) cannot be shown in real time. Customer buys a book over the internet, sale recorded in Amazon's system, customer receives book on their Kindle (a totally automated process), SALE SHOULD BE IMMEDIATELY RECORDED ON YOUR REPORT in real time. Except that last part doesn't happen.

featherquill - when you bought, you received a purchase number. W/in 24 hours of that purchase, did you have a new sale show? If not, email again w/ the purchase number to show your sale.

What is your title?

kylee - the thing with friends saying they've bought a copy is that they lie :-( We've had people come on here and say that their friend bought and it's not showing, but come back and say friend either fibbed or thought they bought but only downloaded sample, etc..

I find my sales and my royalties don't always add up. I've had known sales - for example from a reviewer who has clearly read the entire book - which don't appear in my sales figures, but do eventually show up on the expected day on the royalties spreadsheet.

I know it's frustrating, but I guess as long as you're getting the correct royalties, that's the most important thing.
