That's not our goal. We need to sell a certain number of books to be able to fund our annual book prize honorarium. It's interesting to me that, in the weeks we give away Kindle editions, how many paperback copies of those books we sell. Believe it or not, people, poetry matters to some people. It's a heck of a lot more important to me than throwaway romance novels or dime-a-dozen detective stories. To each his/her own....
Poetry matters to me too. I love the way it can turn the mood with a single word. It's a very hard genre to write well. Kudos to you and your authors for being able to profit from it all. That implies it's good, but also that you, the publisher, are doing your job. That's nice to see in today's world.
As a reader, I wish there was more poetry and less self-help books from people who can't even help themselves. Without poetry, we may not have recorded history, genealogy, or laws, all of which led us to form society. And while it may not be read as much anymore for entertainment, poetry is used in education programs across the globe. Young minds soak up rhymes.
It's also used to help adults with a variety of mental and medical issues, including memory loss and prevention. This is a perfect example of one man's trash being another man's treasure. Let all voices be heard.
