KDP sales report never increments

Hi all,

I currently have two books on amazon. I know for a fact that I have sold several of my books, yet my kdp sales report persistently says I have sold one and only one!

On the offchance that all these friends of mine who say they've bought my books were lying, I went online last night and bought both books myself. Still only 1 sale reported!

I have checked Month-toDate Unit Sales (View your unit sales transactions for the current and prior month. ) and it only ever says one sale. It has said that now for two weeks!

Anybody know what's going on here?

I can't tell you what's going on, but I'm suspecting that I have the same problem.

Several people from Twitter and different forums have shown great interest in my book the last few days, and it was my impression that many of them had bought it, but my sales haven't changed at all in several days.

I thought I was just being paranoid, but if you actually bought a couple of books to check, there might actually be a problem!

Let's all hope it is problem, we are all making a lot more money than we thought and it will all be corrected shortly. Sigh, I've always been a dreamer.

I agree 100% ...something is not right here..I have 4 books and have not made one sale on here in 3 weeks...I don't care if the book is about picking your nose..someone out of the millions on kindle would have found at least one book they liked of mine.

Thanks everyone for your replies,

Since posting this thread this morning I added another book. I now have a total of 3 books on amazon. My general sales manager (yes, I have a real day job) bought all three. Guess what? Amazon says I still have only one sale!

I don't suppose there's anyway of actually, gee, I dunno, [i]contacting [/i]amazon and asking them what's going on here?

You can indeed contact them, but I have found that when I contact them for other issues, I rarely get an actual answer...
I'm not too optimistic about this.

Someone can buy your book but until they download/open it in their kindle or kindle app it wont show up. If your GM had purchased them and downloaded them right after you would have seen the sales show up shortly after. So don't take it something is wrong with KDP or that folks are lying :)

  • They actually should list that information for Authors

Thanks for your response, however, several people have bought and downloaded my books to their kindles including me. So the problem is a real one and is yet unresolved.

I've actually posted about this before, when someone I knew purchased a copy of my ebook, but the sale was never reported to me. I viewed the downloaded copy in her phone while she flipped through the "pages" for me to see--it was more than just a sample, it was the entire ebook, and she was charged for it accordingly. That was MONTHS ago, but the sale never showed up in my reports. When I contacted KDP about it, they asked me for the customer's order number; I think that's an unprofessional and inefficient idea, to expect authors to personally obtain customers' order numbers. What about customers we don't know or sales that we don't know about? Now I know someone else who purchased a copy of my ebook days ago. No report. I've searched around the KDP forums, and it appears that quite a few more people have reported problems with sales reports, so the issue hasn't been resolved in the months since I first contacted KDP. Perhaps it is due to an electronic glitch, but I think if Amazon can immediately and consistently charge customers' credit cards, then proper sales reporting and royalty payments to authors should occur just as consistently and in a timely fashion. I'd hate to have to unpublish my ebooks here because of an unresolved glitch. It might be time to report this issue elsewhere, outside of Amazon.

i am having the same problem!! I know for sure I have sold numerous copies of my first novel, to and including...iphones..kindle..mac etc...i am currently showing 7 items sold and have already made contact with admin who confirmed just 7 ??? confused :/

My Amazon account shows one sale so far this month, while my Smashwords account is blooming and increasing. It just doesn't make sense that other e-readers are selling better than Kindle. The reverse used to be true until about three months ago -- I made 90% of my sales on Amazon, and 10% on Smashwords. I think there's a significant glitch in reporting of sales. Amazon simply needs to pay attention to this before it becomes a larger and larger problem.
Also, therein lies a problem past losing some sales. I'd like to try the "Select" program for one or two of my books, but I can't pull out of Smashwords, because that's where I'm continuing to make more and more sales. I can't cut off that source while my Amazon account seems to be dead in the water. I'm about to put up the sixth book in my series, and I'll put it up both places. I sure hope this gets resolved.
Around a month ago, I emailed support and asked about this, and got the reply that the figures were correct. I couldn't think of any way to argue with that, so I've been waiting and watching the two accounts. As of this morning, my Amazon account is still stuck at one, and I've made nine new sales at Smashwords. And it's only 9:30 a.m.

Martko, I got a message back from amazon stating that I actually have more sales than are showing in my report, plus a condescending little three line tutorial on how to use reports, as though it's somehow conceptually beyond me.

The problem with amazon is they will not address THE problem, they will only address MY problem, and not at all satisfactorily.

I made the mistake of signing up for kdp select on two of my books. The only thing I can think to do is to threaten amazon that I am going to take down those two books and take my business over to smashwords.

A word of advice to those on kdp select: go in and DESELECT automatic renew. That way after 90 days you'll be done with them for good.

I thoght I had the same problem at first because people had told me they'd bought the book, yet my book sales showed zero. That is until my hubby told me I was looking at my Amazon.com sales, and that I should look at my Amazon.co.uk sales by selecting that in the menu box on the left hand side where it defaults to Amazon.com.

I felt a bit of an idiot but in my defence it doesn't really look like a menu. not to me, anyway.

I hope this gets resolved for you all.

I am sick and tired of Amazon "support" to be honest... They allow themselves to not give a damn about resolving these problems, because they are so large that they think people won't leave if they do nothing.

The same as others, I now regret enrolling in KDP Select, and might drop Amazon all together after the 90 period is over. Unless of course they actually start working to solve some of all these problems and then make a proper payment system available to non-US residents. Oh, and make a list of royalty rates, taxes and fees that you can actually understand without spending a few hours finding all those different pages where it's mentioned.
And... Oh forget it, I couuld continue all day... Time to write another pointless mail to Amazon about something they won't help me with...
