We all start somewhere, and to make a thread of such arrogance is a joke to me. Newbies are just that, NEWBIES.
We are here to help each other, not bring others down. Sad, because now I have an extremely negative view on the OP and could care less if he/she is successful. Had the OP not made this thread, I could have been a possible customer, BUT YOUR ARROGANCE, OP, has cost you a future sell.
The only reason I'm still posting here is because the Daytona 500 got rained out. The upside is, you folks get to enjoy an above average of fine commentaries by a successful indie. I love being me! Thanks.
I'm also wondering...when does a newbie stop being a newbie? Time on here, posts, experience, sales? When do some of us reach the upper echelons of respect? And I'm also wondering who, back in 2007 was on here to put all of the newbies then, so nicely in their places?
What an upsetting thread for all of us that are just trying...
Let's use a measuring stick of posts. Surely, if you have generated at least 200 different postings, you can't be a "newbie", still asking primitive questions. Then again, if after more than a couple of hundred comments you still ask, "I uploaded three minutes ago, when will I see sales"?, then the jury is still out.
I agree, we could end up not asking questions, in case we look stupid.
If you think a question is annoying, or stupid, just ignore it. Someone else might be annoyed by your question.
I don't know how the review me and I will return the favor works, as you have to buy a book to review it. I know there's the library, but borrowing is only possible in USA.
Yes, I agree. But, surely we can't condemn folks on here who are starting out? We ALL had to start somewhere, didn't we? To be honest I don't tend to post as much as others because I don't feel that I can offer the answers that are required, but I would never berate anyone for asking anything. They are not trying to be offensive, or irritating. All they want is qualified advice and if this isn't the place to ask, then where is? This is an open forum to everyone, but frankly there is a hierarchy on here that sometimes is intimidating. If you're done with giving advice because you have hit the big time, then why come on here? Arrogance, haughtiness and superciliousness is destructive and helps no-one.
KDP is a wonderful opportunity for everyone and no-one should be made to feel unworthy. Perhaps there should be 'sticky' threads that all newbies could be directed to. Maybe that would help and stop inconveniencing some of the 'elders' on here who consider themselves past helping others.
I don't put people down for asking a newbie question. I do take umbrage with the newbie that no sooner asks one typical question like what about my sales and then runs back to well with a plethora of new queries. Such as, "What font should I use, is social media the best way to go or other advertising, what is the best genre' and tell me your highest sales, best story line, cover, and give me the physical measurements of your wife?" All of that on the same thread. That's a bit much, you think?
