I'm the same. I want my books to make me a living, though if I think about what my husband gives me to spend each month( his wages thankfully cover all the bills) I really don't need to amke very much each month to cover my 'living', however, I normally aim for at least minimum wage for a standard working week as my beginning benchmark. We'll work on earning millions after that :)

I need to find me a sugar-mummy... my mate works for the police and his chief-super just split with her partner. I'm thinking I marry her while she's on the rebound and she can keep me in a style to which I feel I should become accustomed and let me potter away with my books. woman pulls in over £200k a year, she can afford me ;-)

oh and that was my 1800th post. typical. look out sax, here I come...

Do you ever stop and ponder what posts end up milestones, lol?

I definitely advise marrying for money. It's always a good plan. ; P

Before kids I worked retail and didn't make enough to pay daycare. This was good in that it made my decision to stay home easier. It's not a political statement--it's just that I wanted to stay home with the kids and if I was making good money or doing something valuable it would have been a harder decision to make.

That all said...it's been beans and rice for an awful lot of years!! We get tortillas with the beans and rice now though, totally moving up in the world!

So yeah...if you can marry for money.... ; P

But what I am posting here again for? I'm at 1/7th of my goal!! So if I just write (7 x 3=21) 21 more books I'll totally be there! Must go make books!

I love how many writers I've seen advocating marrying for money! We're a mercenry lot lol.

Beans & rice sounds delicious...at the moment it's poor lil ole me trying to make ends meet by giving The Man 40 hours a week (in construction project management, of all things...) Thought I was on a cushy number when I got headhunted two weeks ago by a massive company who basically wanted to double my salary if I came in and fixed a wholly mess they've made of a £226 million project (data harvesting: I can do it in my sleep) but guess what...flippin' council pulled the approval for the project last week. Good thing I'd not handed in my notice! Le sigh back to the drawing board...time to ask a copper out on a date ;-)

Yeeks!! I'm glad you didn't give in your notice. : )

Of course I don't really mean marry for money, lol. But if you just happened to fall in love with someone who made 200k a year I wouldn't say to run away! ; P

What would Miss Elizabeth Bennet say! ;)

My sales have been declining, too. I lost my category rankings on .com yesterday :( I guess you need at least 25-30 sales per day to keep in the top 100 for categories.

Ah Diamond - I too am in construction/project management, everything from a 256 townhouse project in Atlantic City NJ to a local council works depot in Shropshire. Maybe we should meet! (Maybe not - my other half may get upset...lol).

I agree about marrying for money...my ex all but bankrupted me, never again.

Back to the thread title - my sales are definitely running lower these last couple of days after March got off to a great start, was running at my best sales rate ever. Assuming Amazon's systems are not on the blink (whatever next!), I'm hoping that this is just 'that time of the month' - people are waiting for their end-of-month paycheque.

I think dear Lizzy would shake her head and make a very biting comment. But she can--her husband has Pemberly and 10,000 a year, lol. : )

Speaking of, can you imagine how much it would cost to upkeep a Pemberly like place in today's money? Oy.

Speaking of ranks...it does just depend on the category. I'm listed in my genres but only sell a few a day. Small, not as popular genres, lol.

Isn't that the truth!!! :) I bundled my novelettes into 3/book for 2.99 which really helped with the bottom line. I'm going to release one more book and then do a 3 bundled and 6 bundled, but that's a few months away still...

I've got a good job that I enjoy for the most part, so for me doing full-time writing means I have to prove that I can not only make the same wage (including the additional taxes involved), but also that it's sustainable. Even if I follow in Mr. Nixtor's footsteps, the transformation to full time author will be a slow and carefully thought-out step.

I kinda fell into this job, was only going to be here for 6 weeks during a period of madness when the Humber flooded and before I did my Master's, somehow I'm still here four years later - go figure. I've studied the arts all my life and I end up living my life through spreadsheets. If I can't do it on excel, it can't be done. Means I have a ball tracking my royalties ;-) The trades think it's hysterical that I write mm romance novels (and I suspect that more than one of them would secretly love to get their grubby paws on them...)

Glad I'm not the only one who married for love and not money. Not that I didn't try.
