Well, I've just finished formatting my first non-fiction book for Kindle, using Word 2004 for Mac. I've sent a copy of the file to my own Kindle as an email attachment with the heading Convert and it comes over looking pretty good.

The only problem is that, although Word gave me a nice-looking Table of Contents, it does NOT link to the book's chapters. That is, the chapter titles in the TOC are not underlined and clicking on one does not take you to the relevant chapter. Nor do the Left and Right buttons on the 5-way controller take one from chapter to chapter. (I've tried sending the file in both .doc and htm form.)

Can anyone please tell me where I might be going wrong? How do I get the TOC to link with the text?

You need to convert your book to .mobi format to work well on kindle. If you have issues with formatting, i can help you out.

Thank you, Bishop12, but my dociment has already (presumably) been converted by the Kindle convertor. Shouldn't that be all it needs to get the TOC working?

It actually isn't enough. You need to follow the kindle publishing guidliness. It can be quite technical. I'm a software developer by profession, and i still had to get my head round it.
