I joined over the weekend and think it's a fantastic site with GREAT potential. Authors should just be wary and not flood the site with their stuff off the bat. My strategy would be to post something about my writing once for every 10 to 15 other posts I make about random and general stuff...

I'm signed up but tbh I've still not explored its potential properly. I get the feeling it could be a great tool - it has a higher referral rate than twitter! - but I really need to get my butt into gear and work it properly...

I've been on pinterest for a long time now and I mentioned the idea of using it for marketing back in November. Nobody really seemed that interested at the time, but people should really consider it now.

As a warning though, people LOVE pinterest and are already getting sick of all the marketing that's finding its way on there. If you are going to do it, make a board that highlights your favorite books as well as your own. Don't be obvious and in your face about it. It would also be a good idea to have your family and friends on pinterest do their own book/reading board and include your titles so that it gets spread around without being spam.

Pinterest is one more reason to have an awesome cover. If your cover is great, and your title good, people will click on it when they see it. Otherwise, they'll skim right over it.

I agree about not spamming! It's true for Twitter, FB and Pinterest!! I try to help others 10 times more than I market myself. That's my ratio.

And, like anything else, authors can't toot their own horn without looking desperate. You are right that It's better to ask friends/family to pin your book for you.

It's a brave new world!

I'm on Pinterest too and it's addictive! I think this site and Stumbleupon are great marketing tools for authors.

I'm afraid it's one of my newest obsessions. I've always loved Facebook for the pics, and now a whole site full of them! I started a pinboard with my books, books I recommend, and Kindle Shorts.

I'll check out your boards.
